literally. my wife and i went out for a bite to eat this evening and we came out to this: (crappy cell phone pics)

you can see the little dot that is the moon obscured by smoke.

this is about 7pm, you can see the moon near the top of the image.

see the orange glow left of center?

that's about 1 mile from us, we are ~1 mile east of I-5 on Laguna Cyn Rd.

we are heading north up Irvine Rd.

i'm in irvine, hope the rest of you are safe.

Actually all of SoCal is ablaze. From Malibu all the way down to San Diego. My TV station, KCAL/KCBS has been doing wall-to-wall coverage of the fires for the whole day non-stop. It's those damned Santa Ana winds that kick up every year about this time. It isn't helping with my 2.5 year old son's allergies and eczema either!

According to the news, it's getting worse. The winds are still pretty high. Our daughter is attending UCSD and she's worried. They cancelled classes for Monday and Tuesday so far. The university also told the people in the dorms to pack a bag, just in case they have to evacuate. It's a bad situation all around.

My daughter was attending San Diego St Univ when the last big fire occured back in 2003. Fortunately for her, one of her dormmates had an aunt who lived in Palm Springs who opened up her home to 7 girls for 4 days while the campus was shut down.

Hope everyone stays safe! One more thing, I hope they find the bastard(s) that set the fire in the OC! Hope they string them by the little toes and let them hang until they die!

I think burning at the stake is more appropriate.
