Default Craftsman Screwdriver Stinks

This is a weird one, but does anybody know why Craftsman screwdriver would put out an odor?

Over the last decade, I've noticed that my Craftsman screwdriver would start putting out an odor. I'm thinking there's something about the plastic they used for the handle. Anyhow, the odor form the screwdriver seem to "contaminate". In other word, if I put that screwdrive in my toolbox, other stuff would start smelling.

Is this normal?

Reminds me of the Seinfeld Smelly Car episode. I've noticed the oder of polymers leaching out of some manufactured plastics but I never found it to be particularly offensive and it usually dissipates over time (e.g., "new car smell").

Funny...........I have a similar issue. My toolbox stinks to high heaven but I don't know what is in there that is causing it. I switched everything to a new tool box and the odor came back. I wonder if I have any Craftsman screwdrivers in there...........I will have to check.

It's off gassing, plastics do this. Cheaper plastics will do it more. You ever notice you open a new package for a plastic product and it doesn't smell normal, it's the same thing, but it's just a property of the material. It shouldn't be that much of a problem unless your huffing your screw drivers

Let us know if the smell is isolated to Crafsman Screwdrivers.

If its just plastic smell, its no biggie. But it really stinks. The bad part is that the smell seems to contaminate my toolbox. I basically have to buy a new toolbox because the old one is too smelly after having the screwdriver in it. Weird thing is that you can't wash the smell off.

So now, I have to keep the smelly screwdrivers separate from the "fresh" screwdrivers. If they stay in contact for too long, the fresh ones will start smelling. Weird.

Buy a can of WD-40 and wipe down the inside, and the smell will disappear.

Tim,

I've tried soap, I've tried bleach. But never thought of WD-40. Will try it this weekend. This would be awesome if it works.
