It is of spectral type M2 and is about 1600–1900 times the Sun's diameter. If it replaced the Sun in our solar system, it would extend past the orbit of Jupiter and near that of Saturn. It is 275,000-575,000 times as luminous as the Sun. VV Cephi A's mass estimated from its orbital motion is about 100 solar masses. However, the mass estimated from its luminosity is about 25-40 solar masses. As a result, the actual mass of the star is unknown
