Default Best gun for bird hunting?

I've never owned a gun, but a bird has pooped on my new Pilot seven days in a row, and I have decided to kill it if I ever see it. Can anyone recommend the best gun and ammo to use?

Although I do not think my neighborhood is freqented by large birds of prey, the sheer quantity of poop suggests some species of significant size.

10 guage with some bird shot out to do it.... We have a lake down the street and there are always a bunch of stupid geese - crapping all in the driveway. Fortunately the pilot gets to live in the garage.

I'm afraid a shotgun would damage the paint. Maybe something with a laser sight?

get a pellet gun and pump it up 50 times - that way you will quietly have a nice dead bird on your hands - just make sure you aim well.

Whoa! You are in the metro Atlanta area (where I grew up). Depending on exactly where you are, shooting a gun can be dangerous to your finances. Based upon your question and the question about the laser sight, i assume you don't have a lot of experience with guns.

Since the bird(s) is above the car I will assume you are shooting at about a 45 degree angle. That is the angle for maximum range. Considering how far wome rounds will go, you could hit something quite a ways away. If you use a shotgun, the pellets will spread over a large area. How many homes, cars, people are in your line of fire? You could stand directly under it and fire straight up and hope the rotation of the earth will chnage its downward path enough to miss you and the Pilot.

It sounds like you haven't seen the bird yet. It may be an endangered species (not likely but possible).

Seriously, it sounds like you need a solution better than a gun. If you are in their flight pattern, you may find a better solution is to find something that will deter them from the area.

I've just been kidding around thus far (sorry if the wink in the first post was too subtle), but if you can tell me how to deter them, I'm all ears. It happened again this evening since I first posted!

I could, but maybe it'll be enough to say that they seem to be perching on the driver's side mirror.

I had a new garage door installed last Friday. While my car was sitting outside the garage from 7:30 am until 2 pm eastern, a bird nailed the right front fender with a big white one.

Here's a picture of my new garage door, because

The product I use between washes to clean up small problems is Eagle One Wipe & Shine. For bigger problems, there's a 5 day waiting period in Virginia to buy a gun.

Sorry, I did miss the wink. How about a scare crow? If you can't make one, a mother in law would work!! Seriously make if you built a perch nearby they would land there instead of your Pilot.

I don't think they even make such a product. But if they do, I'm there!

My next door neighbor in a townhouse block has decoy owls perched at the corners of his back yard fence to keep the pigeons away. They have pigeon crap all over them.

Try placing some double sided tape on top of the mirror for a few days. Obviously, you want to expose the sticky side on top. Birds won't like the sticky perch and will move on soon enough.
