Cool

1997 CRV; looked at the 2002 CRVs but didn't like the redesign. Pilot looks like a '97 on steroids.

I traded a '01 Yukon XL Denali for the Pilot.

1)wife not happy driving the BEAST.
2)I felt the quality was not there and dealer seemed not interested in fixing any problems that I had.
3)transmission way to clunky. Sometimes actually would not engage for 2 seconds or more(dealer said this is normal).
4)buy Honda again.(Had '99 Odyssey)

Default pick-up

Pilot replaced a 1995 Dodge Pick-up with 180,000 miles. Needed a bigger car, plus second tranny in dodge was failing. Pilot came along at the right time. . .

Default Ditto on the Durango

MKell,

You are on the money about the Durango. I lived in fear the last three years. You always knew the brakes were not going to be effective, you just didn't how it would react--fishtail, lock, etc. I look forward to the stable and dependable ride and more importantly not getting to know the Honda service people by name.

1. Not the minivan type.
2. Small tuck-in garage.
3. Love foreign cars.
4. Fuel economy, capacity, reliability, resale value, and etc.
5. Safety!!!!!!

Replaced a 1994 Ford Escort, which was fine for getting you from point A to B, but that was before the days of kids. We also have a Ford Windstar now.

We wanted a second vehicle that would seat 7 or 8 and was NOT another minivan. Looked into the new Explorer (plentiful in supply but more expensive than the Pilot and not as stylish) and the Suzuki XL-7 (no headroom, cheap plastic-y interior parts, lousy pickup).

The minute the Pilot went on sale in June and we were able to test drive it, we put down our deposit -- and have been thankful we did!

We replaced a 2000 CR-V. It was a great car and I cried as I signed over the title. But dried my tears with the thought that we were getting a BIGGER baby buggy.

We saw the Pilot at the Detroit Auto Show (I have to stop going there, I always end up with car lust) and fell in love. Criteria for the new car:

- Big and Safe....SIZE DOES MATTER!!! (its a baby buggy)
- build quality
- AWD
- passenger room and comfort

Replaced a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with ~130,000 miles, all-time 4 wheel drive, leather, and a gas guzzling v8.

Criteria:
1. Wanted a real SUV
2. Reasonable Price (~30-35k)
3. Power
4. 4 wheel drive
5. Gas Mileage (wanted to better than the <13 mpg avg. I was getting in my JGC)

Other Bonuses for the Pilot:
1. Made by Honda
2. Third row of Seats
3. Looks good

1998 Honda Accord EX, 5-speed, with cloth; 50,000 miles.

A great little car which I planned on keeping for a very long time. Then I saw a commercial for the Pilot. So much for loyalty, eh?

Replaced 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. Never liked the minivan, but needed the space. Now that the much cooler Pilot is available, I was finally able to get rid of the Grand Caravan w/out giving up the space.

replaced a 2000 VW Passat Wagon (GLS V6).

our main criteria was:

1) more room, second kid on the way.
2) higher up, bending over to get one kid into a car seat was starting to take its toll on our heads/backs.
3) better quality/service.
4) more interior convenience (germans don't know much about storage space)
5) i looked at minivans. i just couldn't do it.

things i miss:
1) fit and finish. the passat's interior feels more substantial, and pieces seem to fit together better over all.
2) having a car. this is our first SUV, still trying to remember that, especially when i go from the S4 to the Pilot.

overall, the passat is a great car. i'm a big fan of the germans ... in fact the pilot is my first non-german car. but our passat had its share of minor annoyances, and for the most part VW service departments are, shall we say, subpar.

i also wanted some of the nicer things available in a car. we got a lower end Passat, but i missed things like auto climate control, leather, power seats, etc. the pilot offered just about exactly what we wanted. the third row pretty much pushed out all the competitors.
