I've seen a couple of comments recently about the speed (or lack thereof) with which the forums and threads load for people on dialup.
Obviously, the ability to post pics to the forums is essential w/r/t accessory, AV, and other installations (in addition to sharing pics of ours cars and adventures). I, for one, along with many of you I'm sure, appreciate many of the cartoons, graphics, photochops and other pics some members post to entertain us, and that IMO is what makes this such a great community. Nonetheless, there are times that one's main computer is down, etc and logging in via dialup is still preferable to speaking with a spouse or doing chores, and you may not want to wait for hi-res pics to load. So, I wanted to call your attention to a feature in the Control Panel that allows you to suppress the "inline" pics and replace them with a hyperlink instead. It's on the "Edit Options" tab, about halfway down under "Thread View Options". If you set "Show image attachments and [img] code in Posts?" to No. the pics won't automatically display (just the link text) and if you want to see it, you click on it. Well, there's your tip-o-the-day. Carry on! |

Worm, can you put a sticky on this so that it stays on top of the list? At least just for the time being until most members get a chance to see it, and so that we do not have to keep bumping it.

Also, while you're in the Control Panel, you might as well check NO to the two options of showing the user's avatar and the user's signature -- not a big deal, really, but it does save a few bytes here and there from downloading over a 56K modem...
