Default How much weight can Pilot roof hold? (people that is)

We are going to Daytona and have a 2012 Pilot with no roof rails. How much weight can the roof hold of people standing on it? We were sad to find in the Daytona camping we can't build something to watch the race. So we will have a Uhaul trailer and the Pilot for 'surfaces' that are above the ground level.

I'm trying to search about the Uhaul weigh capacity for roof and the Pilot now. Otherwise I need to barrow some big old panel van sort of thing.

Ugh I'm sure they made these platform rules because idiots built rickety wood structures but we have a metal platform that is perfect and safe but they won't let us use it.

If we put something like this on it: Warrior Products 81640 Roof Rack (http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk.../WAR81640.html) and put a board surface would we be able to support people standing?

I would assume less than 200 lbs.

I would assume many hundreds of pounds easily, . . . ASSUMING you can spread most of it to the edges where the roof rails sit.

One person standing on the roof without the weight spread will leave dents. (Don't ask me how I know)

I loaded PILES of stuff on my 2003's roof, but it was always on the rack.

That's what I'm thinking, is using a roof rack that puts weight on the support beams and a wood bottom that distributes weight has to hold 500-1000 because in event of a roll over the entirety of the car PLUS the force of the impact is to be absorbed by the top of the car and not crush the occupants.

I DON'T want to drive with the weight up there, just park and stand on it. And definitely not putting all or any weight on non load bearing mid roof.

I wouldn't recommend it personally, than you add in the beer consumption and there's the slight issue of getting down safely. ;-)

I looked into this once, for our Ody at certain air shows, and putting the kids up top. You're limited by the roof rack weight rating and the rack you place on top of them. None are made to hold an adult, but one could be held. Two adults...or more...your asking for big trouble.

The weight rating has more to do with vehicle stability and dynamic forces than static weight.

If it were me, I wouldn't even consider putting a $25K+ vehicle at risk just for a couple hours' amusement. Take the beater van, or rent something -- but why risk busting up a 2012 Pilot? Chances are that auto insurance either wouldn't cover a dented / caved-in roof, or, if it did, the insurer would then promptly drop coverage (or at best, not renew). Seems like there ought to be a more rational way to work Daytona, although I've never been. Don't recall such constraints at Charlotte.

Thats a big assumption to make, and one that I highly disagree with.

Based on?

My assumption is based on driving the car with several hundred pounds (Probably 400+) of construction material on the roof, having taken several long trips with about 150 to 200 LB of luggage / Camp gear on the roof, having my son (150Lb+) stand of the roof to get his bicycle off the ceiling hooks.

The only damage was slight dimple/dents from my son.

ANSWER: One person < 175lbs laying down flat to distribute weight then you can take turns..... j/k

I would not try standing on the top.

Here is how I interpreted your first sentence

Quote:
going to Daytona (BEACH!) How many people (WOMEN!) can stand on the roof?
First thought, take lots of pictures and we will find out. Then read the rest of your post. It was such a letdown.
