New, more powerful engine and hopefully more economical as well.

Besides Nissan which is hardly a mid-size SUV, is there any mid-size SUV that even has a CVT? Anything at all with CVT and rated to more than 3500? I dont think CVT's can be built tough enough...but what do I know about transmissions. |

I think the technology of CVT's has matured where they can be built to handle any power level. And they're starting to be very efficient, both with respect to losses and with respect to allowing the engine to always be at exactly the optimal RPM for the power level desired.
But... I just hate the way they drive. If there is anything that can take a fun-to-drive car and turn it into a nasty, droning appliance, it is a CVT. Just my preference, others have no problems with them. - Mark |

Don't forget Honda has agreed to install 8 speed normal autos. Suspect we'll see those on Acura's plus awd Honda Xtour, and Pilots. assuming the Ridgeline gets dumped.

We took a JX for a day-long test-drive...while it was a nice vehicle, I hated the CVT and fortunately my wife (her car) decided that she liked the Pilot (her 3rd) over the JX and MDX.

CVT & AT are no good for me. Give me a 6MT any day. I think Nissan offer theirs in a 6-speed manual. If anybody should do a manual trans, it's Honda!!! I have one in my TL and it's outstanding.

94eg! is correct, if you want a fun car, buy the MT. AT/CVT are for convenience. I will note that having driven both AT and CVT extensively, CVT has many advantages such as smoothness in cruise and fuel efficiency not to mention weight and simplicity. Haters of CVT may soon have to settle for cars with CVT as this is the green trend.

Its nice till you think it is just a money maker car based off a lesser product, and its intent is high volume sales to fund other projects. Then take it threw a car wash and find that the carpet is wet behind the mid row seat. Definitly not the Infinity product to buy. Last edited by JLG; 08-06-2012 at 02:09 PM. |

Nissan answered my question today. Honda might follow suit after all. Yikes! Nissan unveils new Pathfinder as a crossover, not SUV |
