Hi all, I am picking up my new Pilot on Thurs 3/29. Is there any type of break in period that you should ad-hear to for the first 500 miles or so? If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Nick |

Nick, Ask them if they've heard of any starting issues with the Pilot. I have a new EXL and every now and again, when I go to start it, it labors to start (like an engine not getting gas). I've seen a few other posts about this issue. Mine has less than 250 miles on it.

Hey Gary, spoke with one of the mechanics about your question and to verify the break in period. He said he never heard of any problems with hard starts or hesitations. I got a remote start installed on mine and so far so good. Hopefully you can get your problem figured out. Did you take it in for service?

reliability and performance by paying extra attention to how you drive during the first 600 miles (1,000 km). During this period: Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration. Avoid hard braking for the first 200 miles (300 km). Do not change the oil until the scheduled maintenance time. Do not tow a trailer. You should also follow these recommendations after the brakes are replaced or if the vehicle receives an overhauled or new engine. |

If there was a specific break in procedure, i.e. one that detailed certain speeds and engine RPMs to maintain, you can bet your bottom dollar Honda's legal dept would have made sure they were in the manual.
Use some common sense whe getting your new Pilot. Don't floor it, but don't baby it either. Drive it normally and you'll be fine. Many people buy from dealers that are hundreds of miles away from home and have to drive the new vehicle back. No issues from what I've seen. Again, use you head and drive responsibly. If you really had to maintain a certain speed or engine RPM, it'd say so in the manual. Last edited by Mad German; 05-17-2012 at 11:06 AM. |

Remote start is pretty good so far. There is only a 200ft range on the remote which can be kind of a hassle but for my use it is not a big deal. There is also a safety feature where you have to shut the car off open the doors and then restart the car. This is kind of a pain but if it is going to keep the car in my driveway then it is worth it.
