I also struggled recently.
I was wondering why I can't get any audio from my iphone while it's connected via usb.
Only way I can get audio from it (using the Pandora app by the way), is to stream audio via bluetooth.
I realized later that once I turned off the iphone bluetooth, I can now get audio via USB.

Not sure if this is an iphone thing, or a Pilot bug.

It would be nice to be able to use both bluetooth and USB at the same time.
