Default 2006 Pilot shifting problem... (82k)

our 2006 pilot has been hesitating to shift lately.. the car drives absolutly fine with no slipping in the tranny whatsoever, but it seems to drag the 1st gear for a long time..

for example, the car starts moving at 1st gear, it should shift to 2nd around 3k-4k rpm (or even lower), however it doesnt shift... it drags all the way up to 4500-5k rpm and than makes a ROUGH (head jolts back slightly) shift to next gear. it happens especially alot when the car is cold..

please note that this was all performed with feather light foot on the gas pedal.. very very gently touched gas pedal therefore shifting at high rpm range didnt make sense to me at all, the engine was screaming to shift up.

this results me to just manually let go of the gas pedal at a certain rpm (usually around 3k) range to let the tranny shift to the next gear...

is this the symptom of tranny going bad? should i try some new tranny oil perhaps?

thanks

p.s the car has roughly around 83k miles, it is my mothers car and has never driven hard in its life ever since new

When was the last time the tranny fluid was changed? If you can't remember then do at least a 2x drain and refill.

The transmission programming does adjust shift points higher for when the engine is cold - I think they do this to get a faster warmup and reduce emissions. If the problem tends to be cold-related, one possibility is that the sensor telling the system the engine is cold is malfunctioning. Are there any other symptoms - poor gas mileage, etc.?
