At $6-$8/quart for oil, why not get regular dino oil and change it out more often? Paying that much for oil is just a waste of money for little or no gain.

I really think your wasting money. Most techs you talk to will tell you to use OEM fluids.

Check for sales! Royal Purple I don't see many sales on. But, you can get full synthetic deals all the time. Sometimes almost for free. Right now, for example, you can get 5 quarts of Quaker State Ultimate Durability for almost free after a mail-in rebate. See here for details: Quaker State Warranty Support Site - Quaker State® Ultimate Durability? Mail In Rebate You can buy a 5-quart jug at walmart for 20.66 +tax and get $20 back!

Hit up BobistheOilGuy.com for other deals and rebates: Product Rebates, Sales and Promotions - Bob Is The Oil Guy

Royal Purple is know to be a pretty poor quality synthetic oil. It doesn't have very good sheer strength according to most of the UOA's on the internets. RP uses the Timken bearing test to demonstrate how it doesn't leave a scar on the surface, but this has little to nothing in common with an oils job inside an internal combustion engine. I wouldn't pay a premium for this oil.

The only expensive oil worth buying is Redline. Amazon tends to have decent mail-order prices.

I run Mobil1 in my cars right now cause it's usually ~$25 for a 5-qt jug at Walmart. Also you can occasionally find coupons for other stores and use them at walmart (like Autozone).

Royal Purple does make the THE BEST oil filter though. SummitRacing.com has them as well as Redline oil.

As far as other fluids, use OEM Honda (especially trans, Power steering & coolant).

There's some good sales at Autozone right now: https://www.autozone.com/autozone/in...=20120307_iz_3

Better than the Honda 'PCX-004' (S2000) filter?

If so, in what way?

The PCX is an outstanding "typical" filter with lots of standard cellulose filter media. The Mobil1 & K&N filters were typically thought of as having better filter media with some sort of semi-synthetic or coated cellulose fibers. The Royal Purple filter has a fine full synthetic glass-fiber media that filter much smaller particles without restricting flow.

That's cause the Honda A02 filter you get at the dealer is just a re-badged Fram by Honeywell. There is no way I would pay a premium price for one of those cardboard filters. The more rare Honda A01 and S2000 PCX filters by Filtech are actually quite good. The PCX filter is made to bypass at a slightly higher pressure differential for whatever reason. It can still be used on any other Honda that it fits (it fits Pilots). It does cost quite a bit if you get it a dealer though, so it's kinda like "why go outta your way". If you buy online in bulk you can get a little deal, but prices seem to go up all the time.

I agree with 94eg!

Redline = best oil.
Royal Purple = best filter.

I don't use Mobil1 unless it's the extended performance stuff, the regular isn't even a full synthetic even though it says it is on the box.

I also use Redline transmission fluid.
For all you ever want to know about oil & tranny fluid check out the Acurazine 3G TL forum. Look for posts by "I hate cars" he knows what he's talking about.

I just went from M1 0w20 to Redline 5w20 and the motor became super smooth. So smooth my wife had to ask me if the engine was on in McD's drive thru today (and it's her car). I guess it's to be expected for a $70 oil change... :|

From my research, sticking with the Honda OEM ATF is the way to go. Sticking to the drain and fill interval is important too.

On Acurazine there are a lot of people experementing with Redline ATF. Some process of mixing Regular D4, Racing Type F and Lightweight Racing fliuids. This acheives the same viscosity as Z1, but with less friction modifiers. The results are very positive sport style shifts with little to no wear on the parts (sacrificing shift quality for increased longevity).

Yup, I've been running the Redline Racing ATF for about 30k now in my TL, no issues at all.

However I'll be waiting till the Pilot is out of warranty before I start using Redline ATF on it, just in case I have an issue and honda tries to give me a hard time about what ATF I was using.
