2010 Pilot EX-L 4WD with 27Km miles and the OEM Goodyear Fortera's are already toast. What a lousy tire in general and what horrible mileage. I rotated the tires every oil change and regularly checked the air pressure, so that is not the issue.
I am and have been using Michelin LTX.MS. on several other vehicles over the years and really like them so put a set on the Pilot. The tires maxload air pressure says 44psi but the costco installers put it at 32PS. This I think is low. The LTX's on my full size pickup has a maxload of 36psi, so I have it kept it there and have over 40K miles with many more to go... so I decided to set my Pilots to 38 psi and see how that rides. The LTX's are OEM on some Pilots so I wanted to know what PSI folks are keeping their tire pressures at, mainly for longevity? thx Last edited by NASGroup; 07-28-2011 at 09:32 PM. |

PSI should be what the manufacturer recommends, usually posted on the driver's side door jamb. 44 PSI is the MAXIMUM PSI that should go into the tire. Maximum, is not the same as recommended. You shouldn't even be near the MAX pressure.

same here. owner manual recommend 32 psi all around. But I put around 35 psi using the craftsman digital tire pressure guage. even the guage is + or - 2, I will be sure getting the right psi of around 32.
just make sure you rotate tires.

Sometimes manufacturers will lower the psi to help improve ride quality. Unfortunately the consumer ends up paying the price due to reduced longevity on those tires.
If you can handle the ride quality with a few extra psi and not go crazy, it'll definitely save you money in your wallet. I had problems with a Nissan Pathfinder back in the early 90's. With OEM tires 31.10.5x15 suggested tire pressure of 29. Lasted all of about 15,000 miles. I complained and Nissan replaced the tires. I then set the new tires to 35psi and got about 35,000 miles out of them. Ride quality was of course definitely firmer but also bearable. Who has money to burn on new tires frequently ? Bottom line you be the judge of your own ride quality.

Interesting... I'm running my M/X2's at 39 PSI which goes up to 41/42 PSI when warm. It really doesn't feel all that harsh even on the crappy roads.
Even at 39PSI, the side walls sometimes look flat. Doesn't 32PSI look flat to you guys? |

We have had 2004 and 2006 Acura MDX's with the michelins, and even after 45,000 miles there was still plenty of tread depth, I would say easily good for at least 80,000 miles.
Always kept the pressure between 35 & 40, always rotated every 7 to 8,000 miles. No trailer towing involved. They are more money but the michelins will last much longer. I have 18,000 on my 2010 Pilot with the GoodYear Forteras, they have been rotated afew times already. First rotation was at less than 5,000 due to tread noise in the fronts. They are wearing evenly, but I only expect to get 45,000 out of them. Also, a few years back I replaced the continentals on my VW Jetta with Michelin MXV4's. The ride was much smoother and quieter. Michelin makes a good tire, but it comes at a price. Basically, you get what you pay for. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time and it needs tires now, I would go for the michelins with a road hazard warranty and you will be set for many years.
