Good morning yall,
I just spent 2 hours on the phone and the internet researching tires, its all a bit overwhelming with all the tire options available.. I think i have it narrowed down to either tirerack and Sam's club both which offer the same exact tire, P235/70R16 104S Goodyear® Integrity - Sam's Club Living in winter cold Wisconsin, snow handling is a must.. Does anyone have any tire suggestions? Also the price difference between tirerack and Sam's is about $8 cheaper via tirerack, but is it worth it to have to find a reliable shop to put them on when Sam's will just do it all? WOW, buying tires for an SUV is a chore and EXPENSIVE!!! any all suggestions on tires would be very welcome, the search did not return much... on to the 2nd question TPMS Sensors... WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY? I mean i thought i knew, aren't they the digital tire pressure sensors on new vehicles? A local chain shop told me they were detiorated and needed replacement to a tune of $150 for all 4 of them...they basically told me that the valves are the tpms sensors and that mine were pretty much worn out.. so regarding TPMS 1. where exactly are they on the vehicle? 2. how can you tell if they need replacement? 3. Are there other optioins besides the $150 this chain shop is charging me? TiresPlus claims they have a kit to replace them and they only charge an extra $15 for it.. I am at a loss.. so yeah any input on new tires with Wisconsin winter snow handling and info on TPMS would be appreciated! THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE!! oNe p.s. I would need all 4 tires and they jus the OEM tires, i.e. 235/70-16

I would recommend taking a look at the Michelin LTX MS/2 if you can swing it. Pricey, but have been well worth it in my opinion. I too was looking for a tire that would do well in the snow and these tires were great this winter. My in laws live in the country and there was never a time I felt concerned at all. Even during the great blizzard this year, they got me around. My brother in law put BF Goodrich Long Trails on his Explorer and he really likes them and thought they did well this winter. So, those are two can look at.
The GY Integrities were not even an option. My two choices were the Mich LTX MS/2 or the Mich Latitudes. Have you tried Discount Tire?? Went there and have been very pleased with their service. They are extremely competitive on price too(well, at least our store is). As for the tire sensors, I would not think they would need to be replaced. Sounds like someone is trying to make some extra money off of you. Most places I went to just suggested replacing the seals on the sensors while they were in there. Discount Tire replaced the seals on mine for $12 or so. Good luck with your search. |

Factory TPMS sensors should last 7 years or more. I don't know what year your pilot is, but unless it's old enough to warrant replacement, I'd leave well alone. Also, bear in mind that brand new TPMS sensors from Honda cost all of about $30 each, so $150 is a ripoff.

Thank YOU gentleman,
don't have a discount tire around me.. but I will look into those tires.. Its is a 2005 Honda Pilot... so its under the 7 year window.. but question: HOW do you know or can you tell if they need replacement besides the 7yr window or someone telling you they need replacing, in my case the firestone guys said they were detiorated and had 2 be replaced.. as always... THANK YOU oNe

No need to touch the tpms sensors. The gy tires are the worst possible. Check for discounts and rebates on the Michelin ltxms2 . It's the best tire I've put on my 05 Pilot.

I would at least have the TPMS serviced.
They come in a service kit for about $5.00 each. It includes the core, seal and retaining nut. The seals crack with age and will leak air. Have you looked at TOYO Open Country tires? You won't find them at discount places, but you can at a reputable dealer. |

ok, gents having a hard time finding a local dealer with the ltx ms2's..
so wanted your opinion on the latitude Tours? Everyone seems to have them in stock.. same overal price as the ltx ms2's michillins site rates them(the tour) higher then the ltx ms2's.. also anyone know when the next round of michillin promo's will turn up? Sam's has the tours for $733.. lowest i've found and it mentions a $70 cash back at checkout time, but i can't seem to enlarge the fine print to read the details.. but yeah anyways i'm getting desperate right now.. need new tires now for sure!! tirerack ends up being the same with shipping and most places are chargin an arm and leg to install them probably bitter about losing the sale.. so would rather purchase local.. thanks again feller's.. yall been some real help! oNe p.s. whats the lowest price on ms2's or the tours that anyone found? sam's $733

I just bought Yokohama Geolander AT/S and love those. I absolutely HATED the Goodyear Integritys that came on the car.
*edit* I even went up a size (if you can call it that) and did 245/70/16 instead of the 235/70/16 stock size. Handles just fine

If you are going out to the suburbs anytime soon, there are lots of Discount Tire stores in the suburbs. They didn’t have my MS 2’s in stock either but got them by the next afternoon. Also, they will match anybody’s price (well, my store in town did) so you might mention Sams price you found. I was very pleased with them. I think the Lattitudes are good tires too. It was between those two for me. Snow was a big issue so that is what swayed my decision as the MS 2’s where just a touch better. And after last winter snow, I am very happy
![]() Not sure about any promos, but that sure helped too. Best of luck finding the ones you want. |
