We have one that clears the door depending on how high you stack things. A normal size cooler or tote box not over 19 inches high will clear ours. The big IF is that you have one like ours...we tried several brands with different offsets and lengths of mounting bars. Some are higher, some are lower when mounted in the hitch bracket. There may also be a difference in door lift radius between the 2003-08 and the 2009+ models. Best advice try several brands before you buy. Ours doesn't have brand name on it, sticker fell off or I would share now but we are in NM, paperwork is in IL. Maybe I can find it in 2 weeks...

You can also find cargo carriers with swing away-mounts and attached boxes..GOOGLE is your friend

we have an '06 and use a valley cargo carrier (part #90590)for trips, it clears just fine with the carrier stacked about 2' high. it has an offset mounting bar so you can raise or lower it by flipping the bar around. we have it set in the higher position because i was a bit worried about the exhaust heat burning a hole in something. we havent had any issues as to date.
