Default Towing without electric brakes

Hello, I am new to this forum as I have just purchased my first Honda Pilot, a Navy Blue 2010 model. I have a question regarding towing a boat. When I was researching buying my Pilot I found out that the towing capacity was adequate to tow my boat (2002 Yamaha LX2000), but now that I have purchased the Pilot I read in the manual that I should not tow a trailer/boat over 1000 lbs. that does not have brakes on the trailer. My boat/trailer does not have brakes on it and weighs approximately 3,000 lbs. with boat, trailer and gear. Does anyone know the implications of towing a trailer/boat without brakes of this weight with my 2010 Honda pilot?

It is probably not legal to tow that weight without breaks and break-away breaks.
If something goes wrong you could find yourself in trouble without your insurance company on your side.

Nothing like that. More a case of the lawyers writing the owners manual.
Given that the wet weight of the Yamaha, trailer etc must be close to 3000 lbs, electric brakes do seem to be good idea especially if you have a substantial load inside the vehicle as well.

Check with your state laws, just in case.
