Default Problem programming keyless entry

Guys,

I needed to replace the keyless entry batteries in my two keys and am having considerable difficulty in programming my 2006 Pilot to accept them. I've found the directions here on Piloteers and have followed them exactly, but i cannot get the Pilot to enter "programming mode".

After reading the other threads, it sounds like others have also had difficulty with this. I was very careful to observe the timing, but I'm not having any luck.

Any other suggestions out there?

Steve

Changing the batteries in the keys should NOT have erased any programming in the vehicle. The remote part of the keys each have a unique hard-coded code programmed in them. Every remote is different and the code doesn't get erased if your remove the batteries. The vehicle is then programmed to accept the codes of your particular keys. Thus, there is no way that removing the batteries will wipe anything out. Are you sure there isn't something else that happened?

I think what happens to most people is that after changing the batteries, they THINK they have to reprogram the remotes and then they try to do the programming procedure and end up wiping out the programming in the vehicle. I'm not saying this necessarily happened to you, but just trying to understand what happened in your case.

So perhaps both my remotes are bad??

One stopped working around 2008, replaced the battery and it still didn't work. So I thought that one was dead. The other has been working until just recently, so i figured the battery died. I replaced the battery and it still didn't work. That's when I started researching this problem on the Piloteers boards and saw the procedure for programming the car to accept new remotes.

Is there any way to determine if the remotes are functioning? By the way, what is that very small button on the remote module - a reset?

Thanks again for the help.

What small button on the remote module are you talking about?? There is no small button. There is a tiny light to the left of the lock button that lights up red momentarily whenever you press a button. Is that what you are talking about? If it is, and you never see it light up red, then there is your problem. Whenever the remote is actually transmitting a signal, it should light red.

If you have fresh batteries in the remote and they are installed correctly, but you get no light when you press a button, your remote is toast. Get a new one (or two).

I didn't realize that was a light - so its confirmed that I have two dead remotes. It appears that I can get a couple of OEM blank keys with the remote module for under $40 each. I can swap out the modules from those. Is there anyplace where I can get just purchase the remote module?

You can just get the remote module... but the price of that with shipping is MORE than buying the entire thing from this guy...
Brand New OEM Honda Pilot Master Key w/remote 2005-08 | eBay

I bought 3 keys from the above and they were perfect, unopened, genuine Honda keys/remotes, so I can say for sure that it is an excellent deal at $25 a piece shipped. He even mentions your specific case of swapping the remote module for a broken one to fix your key.

Good luck!

First verify that both remotes are bad. Test the new batteries for 3 volts then put it to the remote modules and look for the responding led light.

Btw that ebay link above is brilliant. How is this guy making any profit at $25 a pop?

Glad you took advantage of that link! I couldn't find a better deal anywhere.

I was a bit skeptical when I first found it myself, but like I said, I bought 3 and actually got exactly what he described so I was happy! I don't know how he makes money on them, but I didn't mind and didn't ask. I just got my keys and ran!

Maybe he works at a dealer and can get them below cost?
