Lots of threads on mpg can be found on this forum if you do a search. Some on the first gen, some on the second gen.

I've never even tried to calculate mpgs on any of my vehicles. It's not even a consideration for me. How do you do it? How do you know exactly how much you have in the tank? I assume you would need a notebook to log in everything everytime you fill up.

this is the way I do it.
1st. fill up the gas. 2nd. reset the trip meter A. 3rd. fill up the gas when you need to. 4th. Trip Meter A divide by gallons used. repeat that again, and reset A. I average 20.2 mpg highway.

To answer the question. Everytime you fill up reset one of the trip counters. Then when you need to refill again, fill up to full.
So if you did 313.2 miles and just filled up for 17 gallions then 313.2/17 = 18.42 MPG. I get about 15-16 miles since I drive mostly city on crappy tires (oem). |

I use an app on my iPad called Gas Cubby. I used this on my 1999 Honda Accord.
Since I do quite a bit of city driving, after four fill-ups, I am getting 15.3 mpg.

Thats the only way to get accurate reading.. some garmin gps have a mpg program.. they don't give a right reading.. cause all the idling and stuff.
15-16 mpg in city is not bad.
