Thumbs up K&N Air Filters?

Has any one put a K&N air filter in their pilot yet? Was just curious if you noticed a difference or if it affected your MPG's

Our site search is not that great.

Google with "siteiloteers.org" works better

Dont use an air filter that requires oil to catch the particles, you will destroy your MAF sensor and gum up your throttle body. Use a non oil filter.

I had one on my old Pathfinder without problems. I could see a possibility where you could have problems though, if you were to over oil them. Follow and read all the instructions and you'll be fine.

Last couple of cars I had them on had MAF failures - and that's without oiling them. I'll sacrifice what little gain there might be at wide open throttle to know that I won't be sucking dirt and oil into my engine.

I've used many K&N filters over the years of all different sizes and shapes in many different cars and while I had no MAF failures, I never use them now because of the major hassle it is to clean and re-oil them. Also, I never noticed any improvement in anything with them on. I now use whatever is the cheapest paper filter I can find and replace often.

Hi,
Yeah used K&N's air filter before and is really good thing to use.
K and N s air filter has been constructed of coton gauze like material which is sandwichd in between alluminum wire mesh. K&N's filters are periodicaly washed and recoatd with oil...........

I've used K&N for almost a year now with no issues. 8 out of 10 times, people add too much oil.

Yes, I am concern about that too.

With my last (1st) cleaning, I make sure I go a bit less oil, where I can still see pink, instead of soaking it blood red.

No gains, no sound, no nothing. Just like OEM. The only difference is you don't need to buy another air filter again. That's your "gain."

As far as sucking in more dirt? We could debate about lab tests, which are true. But think about this. The OEM air box is pretty restrictive by nature. Look at the way if bends. Is it really going to suck in a lot of stuff?

WTF?

Of course it sucks lots of stuff in. That is why your filter gets dirty in the first place!

K&N Filters DONT filter as well as paper/OEM. That is a fact. In addition, they do not allow more air into your engine either unless your at WIDE OPEN THROTTLE! And just how much of your driving is done at WOT. So unless your racing your pilot, they are of no use to you. Unless you enjoy more dust in your engine.

Also, it is known to cause MAF failures straight out of the box (brand new with factory oiling). That being said, HONDAS DON'T USE MAF SENSORS so that's not something to worry about.

Btw here's a tip to oil the k&n. Spray the oil solution liberally but not overly, then let it sit on a paper towel to let the excess work itself down. And obviously wipe off any excess spray on non-filter sides.

But yes there has been maf failures associated wit the K&n.

Of course, large particles will likely not make it to the filter due to the fact that the intake tract is shielded and there are some bends in there but that is irrelevant since large particles are likely too heavy to make it to the filter and really plug it up. It's the very small particles that get past the filter that enter the cylinders and get ground into the cylinder walls by the pistons and then work their way to the crank and cam bearings that you need to worry about. Over time, those particles cause wear.

I've operated combines in a constant cloud of grain dust for up to 16 hours or so a day. The engines are free-breathing diesels that intake a huge volume of air, and the air filters are always paper.

No one in their right mind would ever use a K&N air filter for something like that. The engine alone costs more than a new Pilot.

K&N is a bad idea that gets stuck in your head and won't go away.

Acrua had a service flash out warning about using the oiled filter. You will get increases air flow but you also get a lack of good filtration.
