Default Solutions for narrow driver's seat?

I found a few threads regarding the drivers seat being too small for some, with pain and numbness. I would like to purchase a new '11 Pilot, but the upswept "wing" part of the bucket seat is hitting me in the leg and just isn't comfortable at all - my legs, especially the right, were hurting after a 20 min test drive. It was the same thing with a follow up test drive as well. I read about someone getting the foam reduced in the sides at an auto upholstery place, but has anyone else had experience with that: results, cost, durability, etc. I hate to buy a new car without certain results.

It really is an un-ergonomic seat design. We sit with our legs slightly angling out and the legs go over that rise which goes straight out. Test drove a highlander that doesn't have the rise and is more comfortable.
It just seems like a no-duh that the rise on the sides would cause trouble for some.

I think if the length of the seat was extended it would offer more support. I don't have much a problem with the width, but if the seat itself had been extended in length, towards the steering wheel, it would provide the needed support that my legs seem to require.

I had issues at first but kept adjusting the seat until I found a good position. Maybe add a cushion to the bottom to get your butt up and reduce pressure on your legs.

I have a friend who has to get every seat on every car she buys modified to her back. Its not expensive ($200 on her Rav 4).

Regardless of what you do, do not buy a car that is not comfortable for you.

You may just need another extended test drive, or maybe you will never be comfortable in a certain seat. Did you try both the leather and cloth seats?

Everyone is different, but in the end you will hate even the best car if you are not comfortable in it.

Me personally, I really like the seats in my Pilot and just finished a 2,700 mile round trip to Florida. I have also had cars in the past that I hated driving because of the seat.
