Default P0325 + VTM-4 light

Hi all,

My Wifes 06 Pilot just got a CEL and a weird (to me) vtm-4 engine light

My scanner pulled the (2) p0325 events for a bad knock sensor (which i feel comfortable replacing if someone has instructions or an online writeup)

but im not sure how to scan whats going on with the vtm-4 error.

is that related to the knock sensor or is that something else i should be trying to hunt down

thanks

Yes it is (the correct place to ask).

Only thing I can think of is when people were having rodents chewing through knock sensor wires and getting that code. I don't know if its VTM-4 light related though.

Another good read:
dealer says rat chewed chewed through wires

There was one thread were the guy/gal replaced the wiring themselves and it was ALOT cheaper then $300. But I cannot find it right now.

Love the bump!!

Try clearing the code and seeing if it comes back.

It's like the EGR code. For some reason when the light goes on it triggers the VTM-4 light to go on. If you fix the knock sensor the VTM-4 light will go off too. By the way when the VTM-4 light is on, your pilot will only be in front wheel drive. All wheel drive will not work. At least this was the case wtih mine.

My neighbour had the light go on, and when she took her Pilot to the dealer they found the wires had been chewed up by a varmint. I'd never heard of this kind of thing happening. Does Honda use wires with shielding that tastes good?

We're having the same issue. Throwing P0325 and the VTM4 light is on. Open the hood look around and am finding chewed up acorns. I can't locate the knock sensor harness though, where exactly is it?

Sure enough it was the knock sensor wire that was chewed off. It seems there is a nice little area for chipmunks to nest right under the manifold as there were plenty of chewed up acorns under it. Not a bad repair, you need to remove the manifold and unseat the injector rail to access the knock sensor. The new wire is wrapped in gray tape that must be made up of something to deter rodents. It's gray tape with a mouse on it that has an "X" through it. I also found this Repels All Animal Repellent Quart Concentrate and sprayed it under the wheel wells and hood.
