Default All wheel drive doesn't work

I have an 03 pilot and my all wheel drive isn't working, just the front wheels spin. The check engine light is on because of an EGR code, will this disegage the all wheel drive?

What ground conditions are you experiencing?
Are you coming off the throttle when you hear the wheels spinning or staying on the throttle?
Does the 03 have VSA? Is is on or off?

03 does not have VSA.

Describe EXACTLY what you are doing and why you think the 4WD is not working.

Yes, an error code could trip off the 4WD, but would probably also light the VTM error light.

I tried to turn on my VTM4 and it didnt' come on. I was on ice so I opened up the door and look at my rear wheel while I stepped on the gas. The front tires spun the rear did not.

Were you stopped in d1, d2, or reverse when you engaged VTM?

N_Jay-had a feeling that VSA didn't come until later. Betcha OP was in D VTM4 LOCK only operates in 1,2 and R under 18 mph

The vtm 4 light wouldn't come on when pressed in D1 D2 D3 or R. When I tried to spin the tires I was in rugular Drive. It's all wheel drive so the back should have spun anyway.

If you are stopped or under 18 MPH in 1, 2, or R the light on the button should come on when pressed.
When you start the far does the VTM error light come on with the bulb check?

If you are on a hard surface you may not spin the backs if the clutches slip first when the front spin. You will only spin one front, and if you spin it enough to get over 18 MPH indicated you will drop out of 4WD lock.

After further driving I have discovered this. My check engine light is on because of an EGR code. The EGR was replaced twice and now they say intake/head ports need to be cleaned out. When I start my pilot the check engine light is on, the all wheel drive works the way it should. After I drive for about 1 mile the VTM4 light comes on and my Pilot stops being all wheel drive and only the front wheels are engaged. I am taking it in to get the code for this on Thursday. Has anyone had this type of issue?

I have a 2003 Pilot with 246,000 km with this problem just starting for me. In my case, the VTM-4 light never comes on from cold and does not usually come on until the engine is warm. It does come on when the engine is warm but the transmission is cold (e.g. remote start in driveway, warming up but not driven… not even shifted out of park). Once the engine is warm the light is much more likely to come on. Turning off and restarting will solve the problem, but in some cases the light immediately comes back on, or very quickly thereafter. In some cases, the light does not come back on. The light appears to come on more often when the engine is idling or not under load. The light appears to come on when the engine revolutions are declining, e.g. coasting to a stop, or when transmission shifts up and revolutions drop, or when coming up behind a slower moving vehicle and letting up on the gas. The light comes on whether the gas tank is full or near empty. The farther you drive (… warmer vehicle gets?) the more likely the light is to come on. That said, there are often periods of several days where the vehicle is driven and the light does not come on. The vehicle starts perfectly (even from very cold) and the engine runs smoothly, pulls strongly and does not hesitate or misfire at any time. There is no apparent correlation between the engine performance and when the light comes on… other than it appears to occur more often when engine is coming OFF load. The light has never come on when accelerating or driving at higher RPMs (e.g. on the 401). I have relaced the EGFR valve and cleaned that system out as much as possible, but I am now exploring other options... I had the transmission rebuilt about 20,000 km ago but I need to confirm that they changed the "differential" oil at that time, otherwise, I am looking for any help or suggestions. Thanks.
