No, the factory does not etch the glass. But my dealer etched the glass as part of his insurance program. They said it takes about 10 minutes tops.

Here are pics from SoapPlants saddle interior. It's different in that he installed the wood trim pieces, but you'll get the idea.

Exclamation Please help with info on build dates after 10/11/02

Does anyone have any build dates after 10/11/02? If so, could you go to the thread below and tell us about the build date and, if known, the VIN? We need your help to piece together what is going on with the Pilot production line in Alliston, Canada. We know the line has been closed and perhaps reopened and maybe scheduled to close again (hopefully for just a day) and knowing some information about the vehicles being produced during this time would be very helpful to those who are trying to estimate delays on their scheduled Pilots. Thanks!

Default Oil Change

Has anyone received a reasonable answer as to why the first oil change is around 6000 mi. The owners manual specifically mentions not to change it earlier, but that statement is not in the shop manual??

Thumbs down Noise on concrete roads

I am a new Honda Pilot owner. I love Honda Engineering. They have done a great job in putting together an awesome SUV. But I have one complaint. The SUV makes lots of noise on concrete roads. Has anyone applied noise dampner undercoating to reduce the noise?

What are the other options to reduce the noise in Honda Pilot? I have already replaced Goodyear tires with Michelin CT.

I don't believe that people are replacing their Goodyear's with Michelins to reduce road noise, nor I do I think anyone has claimed to have improved it by doing this (I actually think I have read the contrary). Mostly, people are doing it because the Goodyear's are a lame "car" tire that doesn't belong on a SUV and that is far inferior to other tires. The Michelin has a different and more aggresive tread pattern than the Integrities that would likely generate more road noise.

But that aside, I think the primary problem is sound dampening. That and that Honda apparently doesn't invest much effort to supply any. I know of no-one that has posted any results of trying to do something about this. There has been some discussion about what to try, such as undercoating the vehicle, but I am not aware of anyone who has done it.

Default Noise

One of my biggest gripes is the noise on non-smooth surfaces. In my first week I looked at undercoating but had the second thought about trapping moisture.
Someone here has already replaced tires with no difference in noise.
A lot of manufacturers use sound deadening around the wheel wells. That seems to be where the noise is coming from. I suspect it is a major job to get at the wheel wells.

Default New to Forum ?'s

Hi gang,

I'm currently the proud owner of a 2000 Odyssey EX with 41K Flawless miles and am very interested in a new Pilot but have a few concerns I'm sure you all can answer:

1. We do several two day driving trips, one way, to our vacatrion locations and my two kids (10 & 14) are understandabily unwilling to give up their "individual" captains charis. Is the second row bench in the Pilot going to offer the same level of comfort as the captains chairs in my current Odyssey. Does the bench split and individually recline?

2. Can someone give me some technical details reguarding the 4WD System. I have no need for a 4LO gearbox or for steep hill climbing but I'm wondering how it would perform pulling our jetskis up a very slick boat ramp or maintain decent traction in very icy and snowy conditions. Currently my Tacoma 4X4 does the boat ramp duty but we always end up taking both cars to the lake to accomidate the family. I have read that the Pilot offers a rear locking differental. Is this standard or an option?

Looking forward to learning much about the Pilot.

Thanks......Reed

We have 2 boys 12 & 15 and we got the Pilot after a minivan with Captain's chairs. They love the Pilot - the seats are comfortable and the "activity tray" in the EXL is a nice 'separator' between the kids - plus they are so busy watching the DVD movies on the RES (Rear Entertainment System) that they haven't noticed the seats.

By the way the middle seat (on top of folded up activity tray) is not very comfortable. For short trips only. But we love the ability to take 4 people VERY comfortably, or up to 8 on a short trip out to dinner or something.
