Today, I got 4 new speakers and 2 tweeters installed in my 2011 Honda Pilot since the factory speakers and tweeters didn't sound all that great. The new speakers sound fantastic. However, the factory subwoofer now is almost inaudible. Even when I turn it all the way up on the receiver, I can hear it only if I put my ear close to the subwoofer. It used to be that if I turned the subwoofer above 3/6, it would become too loud and uncomfortable. Now, I can barely hear any sound coming from it even when all the way up at 6/6.
Do I need to purchase an amplifier? Or is there something with the install that needs to be changed? I see that several of you have performed the subwoofer upgrade, which is pretty great, but also requires an aftermarket amp. Really, I am just curious why I can't hear the subwoofer as much as I was hearing it before replacing the speakers. Or perhaps I am just confused and its in my mind. Just for reference, I have a Honda Pilot EX with 7 Speakers, and I replaced the 4 speakers and 2 tweeters with Alpine SPS610. |

Pardon me. I am an idiot. The installer had changed the stereo settings so that the directional sound settings were set to Forward completely (F6). So there was barely any sound reaching the back or the subwoofer. Once I changed the settings to Center, all returned to normal and now the sound system sounds quite good.
I may still invest in an amp + sub later this year, but for now this should suffice. I should mention that if you are just getting the 6 speakers replaced (2 tweeters, two front and two back), you don't really need an amp. The factory receiver does an adequate job. |

I just got my 2005 Pilot and love it; except for the audio and no nav.
So I purchased JVC KW-NT300 and installed new front speakers by Alpine, SPS-610C and a 8" subwoofer by Lanzar VCTBS8 Vector 8-Inch Super-Slim 600-Watt under the passenger front seat. I also added a CCD camera in the tailgate next to the license and it works just great. The blutooth works well with my Samsung Galaxy SII and the JVC can read my contacts from my iPod. The sound is just amazing and I must admit that Led Zepplin sounds/looks great on the DVD. Plenty of bass from the 8" sub and the highs are well reproduced by the tweeters that came with the Alpine set. I'm looking for a pocket to handle the space formerly occupied by my 6-disc CD changer and the DVD unit. These are available if someone is interested. I almost wish I had gotten the JVC KW-NT500 because it adds HD Radio to the mix. |
