I purchased an Advent 10.1 Flip Down and had a pretty reputable shop in my area install it in my 2012 ex-L with Navi.
When I picked it up, they showed me how they installed it by sandwiching a piece of wood on the inside of the headliner and the DVD mounting bracket on the outside of the headliner. It seems pretty secure but when you open the screen or touch the unit, it shakes a little. The shop manager said this was the only way they could do it with the sunroof but to me, it does not seem to meet my expectations of a "Professional Install" Anyone have any advise or suggestions I can give them to fix this install? Is there any places they could have mounted the DVD bracket to and have it secured better? THanks for any insight. |

I'm guessing the the headliner isn't designed to support much weight, as you clearly saw with the shaking. I wonder how the stock unit is affixed?
Perhaps the shop could epoxy a few rubber stoppers (or some sort of block) in between the wood panel and the roof. That should transfer the load to the sheet metal or at least dampen the vibration. I have no idea what the space looks like up there, so I'm just brainstorming. I agree with you though, not what I would expect from a pro install. Good luck! |

From what I have read on the boards, the stock system utilizies a metal brace shaped like an X which is screwed into the Moonroof frame in 4 places at the ends of each arm of the brace. A jiggling DVD player in a near $40,000 car does not seem right. I really do not enjoy these situations where the installer thinks they did the "best" job or used the "only' option they could.
I really would have been able to install it myself using the method they did. I have watched a youtube video of a Pilot install where they used the frame of the moonroof located just past the end of the sunroof area, about 3 inches wide. |

just called to the shop and the pwner explained his installer probably did the best he could given the 3 shop hours I paid for. They are going to take a look tomorrow and see if they can fab up a brace and reinstall. probably cost me in the end.

'3 shop hours'? That's a novelty. Since when does one buy 'shop time'? You buy a service - an installation. If the shop owner estimates it'll take 3 hours, charges accordingly, but fails to get it installed in that time, it's HIS problem, not yours. I would definitely NOT deal with the place again. What if a brake shop charged you for '3 hours shop time', but ran out of time and skipped putting the pads back in?

I agree w/ scorrp... That 'Shop time' is BS. Never heard of that. Shops I've dealt w/ quote by the job. Get the price and expect to pay that figure regardless if it takes them 3, 6 or 8 hours. That's their problem. Good luck.

well after some helpfull suggestions I provided by researching myself (mainly this forum), they were able to fix the install. Attached one end of the mounting plate to the moonroof support beam and they created a bracket for the opposite end attached to a crossbar in the roof of the car. Minimal weight is supported by the headliner now. They said the crossbar needed to be re-glued to the sheet metal of the roof. I will take their word for it. Hit me up for another $90 so $330 total install. I hope I helped them reconsider what a quality job should be for future customers.
