Default 2007 Navigation System haywire - backup lights won't shut off killing battery

It started with the voice recognition saying "please repeat". "Say again". My wife never uses the voice recognition and I was driving the car and hit cancel a few times and the problem seemed to go away.

Ironically this is maybe one day after going to Honda service where they recommended a new $150 battery and I told my wife to decline (but she paid for the $14 rear wiper blade).

So tonight my wife says she thinks she saw a light on in the driveway. It is her reverse lights. They are on. Turn on the car and backup camera is on when In park, in drive. I drive up to 40mph and still on with reverse lights. Reverse lights do get brighter when actually in reverse. So I am not sure what's up.

I read about cycling the Nav system and went back out to the car before dinner And the battery was already dead. Well before the reverse lights make the battery totally useless I jump started it with my non-navi Ridgeline. (And sometimes I wish had gotten navi in that truck. Thank goodness.).

Entered navi code from manual. Success on that but problem still there.

Then I tried unplugging the Nav box under the seat. All wires unplugged. Now just the light gray screen in Nav and the reverse lights still on.

I am sitting here in the car typing watching snow fall with the car running figuring I will just have to disconnect the battery I guess. Wife can take the Ridgeline in the snow tomorrow anyway I guess.

So it sounds like the navi and reverse lights think it is always in reverse maybe? And lights just get brighter when really in reverse???

I have turned off and on the car many many times. Tried menu-map/guide-cancel several times too. Nothing. I don't really even get a chance to use the OK screen.

Pull the reverse bulbs out. Go to bed and think about it.
how old is the battery?

Disconnected the battery. I agree it is time to replace it. I will report back once a solid battery has been installed.

I know bad batteries can do flakey things to new cars, but this one seems a little over-the-top.

Never figured it out but the problem and the burning electrical smell are gone. I replaced the battery almost immediately after the problem disappeared.

The navigation system was asking for the code recently. My wife hasn't told me and had been driving without it.

Last night we took her car and she now gets nothing on the navigation screen. No backup camera. No navi system at all. Ughh.

I just thought I would provide an update of the behavior we are seeing now. Most times the navigation system is working, but the GPS only updates the location every couple of minutes, really making the system pretty much useless. The backup camera doesn't seem to be turning on at all recently. My wife says the entire system works intermittently. I was surprised to see the navigation system working as described above on Easter Sunday. It is almost the exact opposite of the initial behavior of the reverse lights and camera always being on. Oh wow. That reminds me that I need to check and see if the reverse lights are coming on at all when the backup camera is not.

GPS triangulation continues to be horrible, totally unreliable, I watch the arrow turn as I turn the car at a corner, but the thing thinks we are like 10 blocks away. WTF ?

The reverse camera seems to be working most times I drive the car, but definitely not always. Sometimes it is just a black screen.

I have gone in and adjusted the GPS location and direction of the vehicle. When I drive around the block, the arrow turns to the correct direction but the GPS seems to think in still in the driveway. I wonder if the GPS triangulation is supposed to be attached to the wheels for the distance moved but it's not working.

I'd like to figure out how to make the GPS search for a satellite again, like it decides to do on its own every now and then, of course when we don't have time to sit still for 10 minutes.
