I've tried several versions of adding USB sourced power for cell phone chargers etc and think I've finally found one that works best, at least for me.
Magnadyne DVU-2. Taking power off the outlet, it provides two power outlets, and two USB outlets, in a compact box that I have velcroed to the center console. For $20 its a well made unit that includes a replaceable fuse. I replaced the 20amp fuse its supplied with with a 10am fuse so as to avoid overloading the car's power outlet rating. The velcro supplied with the unit isn't man enough to hold it pendulum style. So that was replaced with a much larger piece of velcro that works well. Magnadyne DVU-2 I've gotten rid of the heavy power cable supplied by garmin and now use a USB connector to power that unit. Only difference noted is that on start up it thinks its connected to a PC, and goes through a slower boot up. Three thumbs up product And yes I did use my own money to get one!
