EDIT: Here is a review of the item.
I placed an order on the below Amazon link on Sunday afternoon. I received the unit on Wednesday afternoon. Then I had to sit a few hours until the wife came home from work. The unit is made out of metal and is pretty sturdy. The weakest point is the arms that go up to hold on the sides of the iPad. When I say weak, you would have to move them back and forth a few times to snap them off. It is honestly a very simple, easy design as you can see from the pictures. It also is made wider than the width of the iPad. I have a leather case on my iPad and it fits snuggly into the holder. Very happy with that. To install the holder, you slide it into the top of the middle sliding door and it very easily 'wedges' between the door and the center console. It actually is pretty solid sitting there. From there the iPad just slides into the slot and you are good to go! I ended up paying $29.99 for this item. I would most definitely buy another one if needed for the price and usability! I will post up a long term test in the next few days as I am taking a few hundred mile road trip. Original Message: Does anyone have any experience with this product? It seems somewhat new but I like the concept and location that it will hold an iPad. My concern is it doesn't seem to have any special back bracing to stop the unit from falling over under acceleration. Not seeing any reviews online. Any info would be appreciated.

Never saw that before... Looks like a decent idea, but maybe too low or not angled up enough to face the driver.
They should get some bigger pictures to help explain it better, but to your point on tipping over I think it would be OK. It looks like you slide the iPad down in to two U-shaped channels, which should hold it upright if the plastic is rigid enough. My concern would be it flexing and moving if the "arm" wasn't beefy enough. |

I bit the bullet and just ordered it yesterday. Already got the shipping confirmation.
I built a full CarPC in my 2001 Prelude. I was contemplating doing the same with the Pilot but this might fill the void. ...now to work on getting synced play between the iPad and my TouchPads. Can mount them in the back

I have built car PCs as well - and with tablets being so powerful and so cheap, it really isn't worth the effort any more. I actually just sold off all the parts from my previous car PC (except the touch screen) and will eventually work on an integrated tablet.
Please post pics when you are all set up! |

I sent a note to the seller asking how it balances on the front end. They stated that there is a long tab that goes back into the cubby hole next to the shifter. Even if that is not enough to balance the iPad I could stick a nice piece of industrial Velcro hidden in the back of the slot to provide additional counter-balance. The reviews that I found online for the same product for other vehicles was very positive.

I am about 3 hours into a trip right now. Angle works great for both front seats. Useable from both. Very happy with this!

All you need is this and you'll have a great gps system as well.

Edit: Also, how are you guys hooking it up? Just using the line out / headphone jack or using something like a USB DAC? |

Pardon my ignorance, but what are you using the iPad for in the Pilot? I'm sure it's a sweet GPS screen and a nice unit for that if you have a wireless data connection, but curious what other purposes? Movies! Yeah, that's it . . . .

You don't need a data connection to use it as a gps. There are bluetooth gps receivers that pair with the iPad and work quite well.
