Well, thanks to this forum, especially this thread, my son and I put a GTAcarkits AUX/iPod in our 2006 Pilot w/NAV today.
The install went great. The first 20 minutes were a bit stressful because we were trying to follow the video on the GTA site for removing the head unit bezel. It turned out that the piloteers thread was more helpful for that bit, a putty knife and some blue tape for protection made quick work of that. I'll be using the AUX in with a Droid Bionic, but the kit comes with an iPod port also that does retain track selection from the steering wheel controls (we tested it with my son's iPhone 4, worked perfectly) and the deck. It also charges via the iPod connector. I'm posting a couple pics of the finished work. I decided install pics are plentiful so I didn't bother. Instead of leaving the Module Unit inside the dash with the head unit, we decided that it would make more sense to keep it somewhere accessible. We opted to velcro the unit just under the center console. The serial cable/Y cable is coming from behind the head unit and then down into the console area via a small notch we cut from the rear (I guess a pic there would have been good!). It all ended up looking quite slick and is really quite invisible from a normal sitting position. The pics are taken from an unnaturally low vantage point to show the install, but again, normally we placed it far enough back that it's unnoticeable. ![]() ![]()

Thanks.
I discovered that making and taking calls works great also. Don't even have to use the speakerphone option on the phone, just answer a call. I initially thought it might not work that great since it still uses the mic on the phone, but it's fine. I wouldn't have been so apprehensive had I known how easy the install would be! |
