Hi,
We love our 2005 Pilot EX, but since it's an older model, it did not have Bluetooth, and we really want to use our iPhone to play music. We use a tape cassette adapter that plugs into the iPhone, and it's OK quality, but we have wires that we'd really like to elminate. So we thought we'd just buy a new Radio (like the Sony MEXBT2900), that allows for BT streaming, and even had a built in microphone for handsfree phone. However, we were told that we'd lose the subwoofer, steering wheel controls and use of the 6 disc changer when doing this. Losing steering wheel controls and the CD changer was OK, but losing subwoofer sounded like a dealbreaker. I did research here and elsewhere, and it appears that eveyrone replacing the stock radio on the older Pilots has the problem of losing subwoofer. SO...I'm looking for some options or suggestions? We don't have a big budget...the 300 they wanted for the sony and install (including kit and harness) was already a stretch. First, is there any way to buy some sort of adapter or unit that will allow us to use BT with the existing stock radio? We don't care about the handsfree phone capability....again our objective is to stream music from an iPhone to the radio. IF there is no way to get BT streaming working with stock, what do you suggest I do? If we replace the HU, it sounds like we also need a subwoofer replacement and amp on top of everything. And since we'll be paying for someone to do this, it's soundling like my cost will at least double if not more. If anyone has ideas or suggestions, it's much appreciated! Thanks! |

I'm not sure that losing the Sub is any big deal as I don't think it actually does that much. I would first look to make sure that your HU supports an auxiliary input. If it doesn't, you need to replace it. If it does, you will need an aux input adapter to connect any bluetooth streaming adapter as I doubt that a bluetooth streaming adapter is made specifically for the Pilot.
You can find input adapters here: Honda/Acura iPod™ Interfaces Some offer the ability to connect and charge an iPhone/iPod thru the dock connector as well as play music. To stream via Bluetooth, this should work and provide hands free calling: Bluetooth Hands Free Car Kits - Parrot USA IMO, if I were to add Bluetooth streaming, I would add hands free calling as well unless you never use the phone while driving. I'm not sure that I would bother with bluetooth streaming though as I don't know the impact on battery life.
