Default ipod in 2008 pilot

I have a 2008 Pilot, with XM capable stereo, 6 disc cd changer and rear entertainment system.

I have had a fm transmitter for my ipod, but the static is getting worse and worse and it has become difficult to find totally clear stations.

I have been looking at getting an ipod integration system, but figuring out what is best has been a bit "murky". Is there a system that is preferred?, is there something with the rear system I need to be aware of?, how difficult is the installation for a novice -- or maybe I should say "should I contact a dealer / mechanic to have it installed"?

There is an AUX button on the system that doesn't appear to do anything. I don't need to have the title showing on the screen, but it would be nice.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Default iPod Integration

I recently installed a Parrot MKi9200 bluetooth kit which contains a iPod, USB and 3.5 mm input. I'm pretty happy with it. All in cost for me was $252 for the bluetooth kit, a Quick Connect wire harness that fits into the XM plug in the back of the radio and some plactis tools for removing trim and panels.

If you are only looking for iPod integration, then I suggest go to crutchfield.com and see what they got, and look for the same unit on Amazon for a discount. Basically any integration kit would plug into the XM slot in the back of the radio. Some units may require a separate wire harness that is specific to the 2008 pilot. It is well worth the cost so you don't have to cut and splice any wires.

Installing should be pretty easy if you are mechanically inclined.

Good luck, and post your results with some pictures for other Piloteers to learn from.

In the mean time and until you get a system that integrates with the iPod ... and if you rear entertainment is OEM, you could hook it up to the input jacks of the entertainment in the back of you arm-rest/middle console... The red, white and yellow connections. This way you play your ipod thru the Aux but you have to control control/navigate your music directly on the iPod to play and make music selections but you won't have to rely on a free radio station or deal with static! I used to have an 06 that the dealer could not install the interface bc all my connections behind the dashboard were "taken" so they said!

Good luck in getting a system!

I installed a USA Spec PA15-HON2 ipod unit in my 07. It works as it should, sounds great, and installation takes about 30 mins. It is plug and play even with factory RES, and I wouldn't pay the dealership to do it. You'll need a flathead and Philip screwdriver. To make installation a littler cleaner, buy zip ties (aka cable ties).

You can use this write-up: My USA Spec / Ipod Install for 06 EXL w/Nav

The only difference you will have to do from the write-up above, is to remove the radio from the top of the dash, not the bottom (as with EX-L navi).

SilWho.. thanks for the tip. I rummaged around the house and found a set of jacks with a single plug on one end, and they worked like a charm!! I will still look at getting a system hooked up to the stereo, but it is great to have a functional ipod again in the vehicle!!

Awesome! I'm glad it worked.

The only downside is if you're going on a trip and the kids want to plug in the playstation! what to do?... What to do? I think I would probably choose the iPod!! LOL!

Enjoy!
