Default 2006 EX-L Stereo

I am interested in replacing the Stock 6 disc cd changer in my Pilot and the more I research the more I read that replacing the stock stereo will cause me to lose the stock sub as well as the stock entertainment DVD.
Is there any truth to this? Is there anyway to replace the Stereo with an aftermarket head unit and keep the Stock sub and DVD system?

I would like to put a audio/DVD head unit in the dash to replace the existing one. Has anyone tried this with any success??

Stick with the factory HU if you have the factory RES fitted.

As for the sub, most people heading down the upgrade path think it is useless and install an upgrade adding an amp along the way. Upgrading the door and other speakers makes a noticeable improvement.

That's what I did on my 04 EXL-RES; kept the factory unit and changed all speakers so stock functionality is in tact; I just plug in my mp3 player into the rear aux jacks. Sounds good enough to me.

Good catch, I do that as well. The cable cost $3-4 from Radio shack. Don't buy one that says Ipod-to get that magic word costs alot of money.

Has anyone figure out how to make factory RES to work with aftermarket radio yet?

I am going to do the same I think, I bought a $4 AUX audio plug and my iphone sounds perfect. Hardly lost any volume, if at all. My next step is to replace all the speakers as well as add an Alpine power pack. What brand speakers did you put in?

I just changed the 4 main speakers with a set of Pioneer TS-G1643R (great reviews - got them from amazon) and left the subwoofer intact. I disconnected the front 2 tweeters since these come with built in tweeters. If you are not comfortable with splicing and soldering electric wires then you may want to pick up some speaker adapters for Honda cars - crutchfield includes them for free but they inflate the price to $50 per pair of speakers and they don't price match. Or you could save some money and pick up 4 METRA 72-7800 harnesses for $15 total from eBay (item #160560649553).

Got a question guys. Does the component speakers in the front need to have an amp? and do i need to use the crossover for these. I bought component speakers for the front but I don't know if i need to run a wire to the tweeters from the crossover or just replace it without messing with the connections. Pls help.

Hi guys. quick question. I brought a CPO 07 Pilot back in November of 2010, which means it's still unders warranty. I wanted to change the speakers and the sub, but from my research...I see that many of you are leaving the sub intact. I want to leave the sub intact too, but I'm not sure if my sub is "broken". I never really paid attention to the sub, but the other day, I noticed it sounds distorted at times and the thumping is horrible. Is there a way to know for sure if my sub is acting normal? I'm afraid to bring it to the dealership becuase they might not want to replace it even after warranty. Anyone in NY that they can take a look for me?

Thanks!
Leo

Stock sub in my car does the same thing - mostly noticeable when sitting in the 3rd row/cargo area. I think it's just poor quality to begin with.

Are you planning on having the dealer change out the speakers or a DIY project?

I would like to get a new sub..just to have a peace of mind..but unsure what the dealer will say so they don't have to do warranty work... not sure if the sound i'm hearing is normal...

Try getting an opinion from a car audio shop to see if they notice a problem first. I'm pretty sure they won't charge you a dime, to just listen to your stereo and check the sub.
If there is a problem then of course take full advantage of the warranty that you paid for.

The stock sub is the worst sub I've seen or heard. If you like that stock look then you can remove the panels and replace it with another sub not necessarily a shallow mount but something that's gonna fit in there.

Or like I did with my pilot - when I replaced my factory stereo the sub stopped working so I didn't bother with it. I added sound deadener, new speakers, amp and a subwoofer in a box that I spray painted that sits in my cargo area & is matched with the interiors color.
