Alright fellow Piloteers...time to earn your keep.
I've searched the many threads and haven't found anything that's exactly like my situation. Over the past (2) weeks, after about 45 minutes of driving, the following items all occur at the same time: 1) My "BRAKE" and "ABS" lights flash on the dashboard 2) A thump is heard from the cargo area subwoofer 3) A momentary loss of audio sound (about 3 seconds) This has happened about 9 or 10 times over the past week. I also noticed a couple of days ago that my radio presets had been lost. Any idea what this could be? Thanks In Advance |

1: Check fluid level for brakes. Low Fluid level is rarely caused by loss of fluid, rather as brake pads wear, the system needs more fluid. So check your brake pad depth as well. If all looks good, then I suspect a defective ground wire or short in the dash area
2&3: Since you lose all the sound, its possible that there is a problem with the power connections to the head unit. Failing that, I would suspect the HU is failing or it shares a ground that needs sorting out.

bad battery or loose/corroded battery connection? seems like the thump would be caused by the audio momentarily losing power, which would also causethe radio presets to reset and the sound to dissapear for a second or two. the fact the brake/abs lights come on at the exact same time as the audio issues happen leads me to believe its electrical. in which case, rockys comment about a loose ground would be a possible culprit. put a meter on the battery and see what volts you have, and make sure everything is tight.

Guys, thanks for all of the pointers. As it turns out I had a loose "+" battery terminal connection that had a lot of corrosion. I cleaned all of the terminals with a cleaning / anti-corrosion kit, re-tightened everything and I haven't had any issues since. Your collective help was invaluable!!
