Default Sound system upgrade Pilot 2005

Hi everyone, I'm looking to upgrade the sound system in my Honda Pilot 2005. I'm unsure of the class but I think it's the lowest Pilot class with electric windows. I want to upgrade the speakers and add a sub-woofer if it doesn't already have one. The main reason why I'm doing this is because I want to add a AUX slot to the car for my ipod. So because of that I've decided to have a complete sound system make over. I am also curious about what a amplifier does. I'm new and would appreciate any directions to recommended products and installation instructions. If you can be so kind as to list a few builds of speakers, subs and cd changers with model numbers or links to electronic websites. Thanks!

Default Welcome.

Grab a cup of coffee and peruse the Audio & Electronic section of the forum. You'll be more than overwhelmed with what folks are doing with Pilots and like me you might learn something too.

Being as you are pretty new at this stuff, I'd suggest searching google also, for extra learning in this area.

If you really want to play your IPod for cheap, there are cassette adapters that can be purchased at Walmart for $10.

Crutchfield can be a great resource for audio equipment and they have installation guides and good online support if you purchase. They know what will fit your specific vehicle.

The sub is located in the right side of the cargo area, there is a grill there you won't miss it.

It won't be long before others will chime in with great tips.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I'm not looking for anything cheap to play my ipod. I have a Monster FM transmitter and it is horrible. I don't have a cassette player slot and don't want one either. I'm really looking to put some solid audio equipment in my old 2005 pilot. I thought it would be nice to listen to good quality music when I make long trips.

Take a look at Kenwood or Alpine as far as head units are concerned. If you want a higher end Component speaker system you could go Polk, CDT or even FOCAL if you want to spend that kind of money. Just depends on what is important to you !!

2005 and no casette player slot? Those were standard even on LXs in 05.

The answers here can get pretty lengthy but in short...if you are looking to crank quality sound, no Head Unit (the Radio) is powerful enough to supply speakers clean power at anything above modest volume levels. Generaly this is why you hear crappy sound on basic OE sytems once you get 3/4 of the way to max volume. An AMP solves this problem by giving speakers the juice they need. The only real factor here is how much you want to spend. as others have said, Crutchfield has great FAQ's on this.

My thoughts: you can make a bargain system from Best Buy sound fairly well if you install and match up components (ie: power hungry speakers and weak amp = not much improvement).

Good luck
