Default 2006 ex Speaker upgrade

Hello fellow Piloteers,

This is my first post... (yea me) I wanted to share my experience upgrading my speakers in my Pilot.

I decided to purchase the Inifinity 6032si (shallow mount) to replace my factory 6 1/2 speakers. Below are some pictures to maybe help other piloteers. I'm finding the biggest challenge was to fit the speakers to the stock speaker holder.

I had to cut the holder in order for the basket to fit in the holder.

Nice install, how do they sound? Are you gonna amp them?

i like the way they sound, however once I get the subs going I'm sure I am gonna need to amp them. For now they are powered by my pioneer head unit (avic 700bt) - got for a steal at a pawn shop for $230. I'm assuming about 23W per channel.

In an attempt to try and keep my pilot looking as stock as possible. I plan on installing 2 10" shallow subs in the headrest storage area. The amp location would be where the stock sub was. Any suggestions or people who have tried this?

Most installations I've seen on the site have been with the amp's in the headrest location and the sub stays in the stock location. Is this what you are going for ?

Start of a System ( with Pics )

No I plan on switching it up... speakers in the storage facing out... and tucking the amp somewhere else.

interesting idea....I had never mapped out how much room there was there for a install of subs but I am just guessing that the numbers will be close. I do have to admit I like the idea though. Could mean losing the cover ??

I'm also interested in putting subs in the headrest storage area in my 2011 Touring. The stock sub is much less powerful in this vehicle vs my '04 Pilot so I need to put new subs somewhere.

Definitely post pics of your sub install especially if you put them in the headrest storage area as I might copy you

Thanks for the feedback. Gonna talk to a couple installers to see what they think. So far I've seen great reviews on Memphis S Class 10" subs. mounting depth is only 2.8" I think a couple of these bad boys mounted flush will do the job. I'm not trying to knock the block down. But i think it will give my pilot that "WOW" factor to look in the back and see no box.

Go for it and definitely keep the cover in the back.

Post pics when you get it all done.

Well like I said this sounds like a interesting idea. I am not sure what amp choices you are looking at but sounds like you are going to need a smaller sized amp to hide in the stock sub location. I would look at the Arc Minis. Very small amplifiers with good CLEAN power. The circuit boards are well designed so they run cool with a small internal fan that sucks heat off the parts of the board that run hot.
Arc Audio
Just a suggestion.

My main concern here would be having enough air for the subs to move. You may have to take the rear tray out and mount them somehow.
here is a pic of the tray I am talking about.

Here is a longer view of the tray ( just pretend those ohhhhhhh sooooooo pretty kicker amps aren't there )

You might have to seal some holes but I think it can be done. You have a lot of options.
Please keep us posted sir !!!!!!!!

Hi I am also planning to change the speakers. Did you guys use the original harness or cut the wires instead. Does anybody know how to take the tweeters out? I need help on that too. Thanks!

See my post at 2006 EX-L Stereo
it is easier to install with the wire harness. You could solder on the old one from the existing stock speakers or do what I did and purchase 2 pairs of wire harnesses (easier and faster).
As far as disconnecting the dash factory tweeters all you have to do is take off the cover using a small flathead screwdriver and pull up the tweeter carefully exposing the connector, disconnect it and put back the tweeter and cover in place. Done!
