Default USA SPEC ipod/cd changer - stopped working

I have a 2005 Honda Pilot with the USA Spec adapter hooked up to the 6 disc cd changer plug behind the dash. It's worked perfectly for a couple years now and just stopped working for no apparent reason.

What happens is when I switch modes on the steering wheel or manually on the dash to try and get to the cd changer input that the ipod uses, it just passes it by and isn't even a choice anymore. Therefore leaving the ipod unusable. Could this possibly be a separate fuse for the changer or possibly does it need some kind of a reset to get the changer input working again.

Thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

Dan

Sounds like the HU doesn't recognize the existence of the Ipod input.

If you have the radio code, pull the fuse, then put it back in and input the code again. If that doesn't clear it, I suspect a failure of the USA spec unit (which is the most likely cause)

OK, thanks for the ideas. I'll give it a try.

I would agree with Rocky. I have a USA SPEC adapter in my Pilot and had this happen once - his remedy worked for me.

I would just go one further and advice to unplug the iPod from the interface. Remove the radio fuse (or pull the negative terminal on the battery), leave it out for about 30 seconds and then reconnect. That should do the trick.

That's funny, I never thought to do that. Whenever it happens to me(once or twice a year), I always go through the effort to take the dash apart and unplug the USA spec from the back of the radio. Thanks for the shortcut idea guys!

Don't get too excited! The Fuse pulling idea may not work!

Default it worked!

Hi Rocky, actually the "fuse pulling" thing did work for me Thanks!

Now I have another issue. I have an iPhone 4 that seems to have limited capability when I plug it into my USA spec. I did hear about this too; that there may be some limitations with the older ipod car cables. Mine seems to do most of everything except charge the iPhone, which I would really like it to do since its such a battery hog.

Do you know if it's possible to get a new cable that works with the iPhone 4 and swap it out with the original one that's going into the USA spec device behind my dash?

Thanks again!

Yes, it should be. You can either call USA SPEC and get the newer cable from them. Another option might be Scosche's $30 adapter for old Apple accessories.

Charging Adapter for iPod & iPhone

Thanks cwa107, I will probably just go for that adapter. It would be nice not to have to pull my dash apart and install a new cable just so I can charge an iPhone All other features seem to work fine like video and audio. Sounds like this charger/adapter is the ticket.

Thanks again,

Dan
