Question Quick question on power source

Sorry if this has been covered already, I've look for an hour this morning didn't see my question answered.

I'm about to install an aftermarket DVD standalone unit and an overhead flipdown monitor in my '03 Pilot. The DVD player will be 1 DIN and be placed in the spare DIN location under the climate control. No NAV, no i-VES, just a cassette/CD player in there currently.

I know many have done this as I've seen. But I haven't seen it addresses where you fetched the power from for the DVD player and monitor. I know the i-VES system will have a harness that gets installed and provides power behind the DVD player, but as I understand it, that harness isn't there until the DVD kit in installed. Are you you just drawing power from the stereo for the STANDBY and ACC? Or maybe tap off one of the spare fuse locations in the fusebox?

Again, sorry if this has already been covered, but I didn't see it.

Thanks,

-Tim

Unplug the wiring harness from the back of the either the HVAC controls or the radio and use a voltmeter to test each of the terminals to find out which wires can be used for switched and unswitched power.

I was thinking that, but I didn't know if I could depend on that stereo power source being able to drive the stereo, a DVD player, AND the monitor. I guess I'll give it a go, and if the fuse starts blowing, put in a slightly larger fuse.

Any other words of wisdom you might have to offer are appreciated.

Thanks

Short of running new power from the battery, just power the player and screen from separate circuits. For instance, run the player from the radio power and the screen from the rear power outlet power.

There are plenty of unused fuses in the kick panels. Identify one or two eg used on RES or Nav equipped cars and take power from those units. Far better than tapping into an existing circuit and potentially messing up those systems

I have an 04 LX which on the right passenger side interior fuse has "#2 20A Driver's Power Window Reclining" and "#3 20A Heated Seat" and "4 Drivers Power Seat Sliding."

Does anyone have a wiring harness diagram for these to show path of wires and color codes?

Being an LX, you don't have #3 or #4 fitted. Look under your seat. If there are no wires, then there is no wiring harness for these items.

Power window reclining? Do you mean power seat reclining? If so see answer above.

Rocky I see a number of unused harness plugs under the seats, maybe I will be lucky . I guess I can insert fuses run some tests with and without fuses to check absent a diagram . I doesnt look like it is a quick and easy job to pull out the fuse box itself.

Good decision.

I know you're looking for an easy way, but I always take extra steps to isolate the power circuits for aftermarket accessories from the OEM wiring. I ran a dedicated wire from the battery into a relay. The relay is triggered from the front power socket, and all the accessories are fed by the relay. HTH.
