I just picked up a 2006 EXL with REC and wanted to swap the headunit for a nav radio. I called crutchfield and they told me that if I did that the REC would not function at all. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a solution? Anyone done anything like this?

Crutchfield is correct....the OEM RES will no longer work if you get an aftermarket head unit. The best way to get both (NAV and RES) in your situation is to get a new overhead screen to go along with the new head unit.
