Default Need an antenna booster for aftermarket radio?

I've got an 06 pilot that I just installed an aftermarket radio into but the radio reception now is horrible especially for am. I don't listen much to am but when there are sporting events I do tune in to hear the play by play. So for all of you who have changed to aftermarket radio have you needed to add an amplifier or booster to get better reception. Thanks.

You need the Honda power antenna adapter. The Pilot has a booster, you need to tie into the amp turn on lead if your deck doesn't have a separate power antenna lead.

AM? I've never tried AM, rarely listen to FM either, but the wife does, so I made sure it would work with the little antenna adapter. If you have the adapter and plugged into the factory harness, used the harness antenna lead into the head unit, and tied the blue wire to the amp/power antenna lead on the deck, it's good to go.

I'll head out to my Pilot and check to see if AM works...

My AM works fine. We don't have a lot of AM stations and very little in the way to block the signal, so my stations are strong. Perhaps your aftermarket deck just doesn't have a great AM tuner?

lol... thanks boilermakerfan... i'll check if i hooked it up right... i know i have the adapter and it has a wire connected to it as well so i'm assuming its a power connection and i did connect it to antenna turn on... maybe i'll try hooking it up to the amp turn on instead... i only use the am for listening to the games especially now that the giants are playing to get to the world series... the aftermarket deck i have installed is the avic 700bt...
