I have two 10" subwoofers that i will soon be installing into my 2004 pilot along with a new head unit. However, I read on crutchfield(where i bought my subs and headunit) that the factory subwoofers will not work. I just want to know what kind of subwoofers the pilot originally has and their power/what's powering them. And if it's possible, how do you keep the factory subs working? might as well, right?

I agree... Forget the factory sub.. I removed mine, made a plywood spacer to make up the difference, filled the enclose with polyfil after sealing all areas inside the enclosure left with plastic bags packed with polyfil. I lined the inside surface of the large plastic wheel well trim with polyfil. I cut out the grill carfully and fit a 10 in pioneer sub on the surface with screws through the plastic trim, through the plywood spacer through the internal sub opening for a solid installation. A Pioneer sub amp fits neatly velcroed under the pass seat. The head unit of course has to be changed out to succeed in this. I picked a double din pioneer FHP8000bt since I already own Nav units- garmin and a Droid. The final top of the cake was the addition of the PACsw1 steering wheel control adapter. The door speakers are actually quite decent in the 2004 being Alpine OEM. Someday i may replace those. I'm VERY happy with the sound of the Pioneer sub, head unit and original door speakers. Nice tight clean bass, no rattles because of all the polyfil I used even at VERY loud volume levels. I also installed the Sirius and HD radio ip modules. I routed the USB and Aux cables to the small covered bin in the console so my ipod stays out of sight for a clean look. I spent about $650 a little over a year ago. Prices for the pioneer units has come down since I did the installation.

Cheapest and best improvement to factory system is to wire a 10 millihenry inductor
(coil) into the + wire of the sub. This will filter frequencies above 64Hz from the sub, and improve the stock system's imaging considerably. The + wire (white/green tracer) can easily be found in the wire bundle running under the passenger door trim piece. Wire the inductor in there, tape over it and drop it under the passenger seat. Parts Express part number is 266-580 and cost is about $15 + shipping.
