Hi all,
I just purchased a 2007 Honda Pilot EX, 3 days ago, and so far I love it!!! As most of you have said, the sound system is pretty bad. I want to play with it a little and have a few questions. First of all, I LOVE MUSIC, but it doesn't need to be extremely loud, just a nice sound with nice kick to it. My last car was a 2004 Toyota Avalon XLS, and after I changed the stereo, the sound was very decent. I'm also fine with the OEM stereo, but would be ok changing it as well. I also don't need an AMP, and quite honestly, wouldn't even know what to do with one. 1. If I put in a new stereo, will the steering wheel radio controls still work? 2. I'm thinking about a Subwoofer, what's the size for the Pilot? any recommendations? 3. I want to put in new speakers all around, maybe except the twitters, any recommendations? and, will I need an AMP? I'm very good with installing stuff, and taking things apart, and really want to do this myself. I'm thinking about starting with the speakers, and going from there. Any help? Thanks guys, your help is greatly appreciated it. Last edited by Diaboard; 07-12-2010 at 11:39 PM. Reason: Wrong year on the title |

I would suggest starting at Crutchfield.com for info on what's available for the Pilot. Answers are as follows:
1. You will need an interface to do this. I believe Crutchfield has details. 2. Search the forum. There are several members that have done subwoofer upgrades. 3. Many members have put in Infinity's or Polks - again a search will provide details. The need for an amp depends on the specs for the head unit and how loud you want your system to be. If you do install speakers, you may want to install dampening material (Dynamat, Brown Bread, etc) wherever you pull the interior off as it will help quiet the inside and hopefully improve sound quality and level.

Thank you for your help on this!! That was great advise.
One thing, if I do put in an after market stereo, will the controls on the wheel work? Let me know, thank you!

Also do a few searches on the forum. Many speaker suggestions for stock locations and sub replacements have been done.

Previously to owning my pilot I had a 02 pathfinder that had a bose system that went bad. I replaced it with a JVC and had Best Buy install an adapter that would allow my steering wheel controls to work with it. They didn't work perfect (there was a delay) and if I recall correctly only certain aftermarket stereos would work with the steering control adapter so make sure you check that before buying. Bottom line is it can be done. This was about 2 years ago so performance has probably gotten better since.

Hi All,
Installed Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD and it works great. Picture is attached. I'm just waiting for the double din case, but it looks great so far... Also, the subwoofer harness has Positive and Negative speaker wire, can I just connect that to a kind of RCA to connect behind the radio, which has a dedicated subwoofer plug. Let me know,

Looks slick!
Dumb question - what is a double din case - that you are waiting for? Did the steering wheel controls still work with this new unit? thanks!

It does look awesome... The good thing about this radio, is that you can scan the color of the buttons, and I made it match the other color a in the dash, ac, etc. It also was incredibly easy to install. I just lost 1 clip...
![]() I lost the radio controls, but I hardly ever used them anyways. There's some attachments that you van buy, but they're too expensive. The double din case, is what goes around the radio to make a tight fit between the car opening and the radio. Below is a link. I'm getting it tomorrow, and the stereo installation will be 100% completed. Honda Pilot In-Dash Receiver Kit Fits 2003-up models Chassis size DD at Crutchfield.com I also ordered some Kenwood speakers that I'll also be installing this week. They're pretty good for what I'm looking for... I don't need crazy loud audio, but I must say that I do need a subwoofer to make it really sound good. This system would sound good in a car, but in an SUV it's not 100%. But we'll see.
