I just bought a 2005 LX which just has the single cd slot and radio, and a button that says CD/Tape. The back of the unit will have an unused connection to hookup the hon98AUX module.
My question is, when I press the cd/tape button to listen to my mp3 player, does the display say TAPE, or what? Right now, when there's no disc in the cd player the button does nothing. So once there's something hooked up to the free port on the back I assume the button will switch to that when there's no disc in the player? My only other concern is breaking tabs trying to remove the face plate, and figuring out how to route the cable down to the not an ashtray. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing but I will definitely give it a shot instead of paying an installer, thanks to the tutorials posted here. Oh yeah, one last question... Is unhooking the battery really necessary for this installation? I'd rather not have to do the idle learn procedure after hooking the battery back up because it's perfect right now and I'm getting great gas mileage. You guys are great, thanks a lot! |

Well I didn't get any advise on this but the converter arrived and I went ahead and did it, and will follow up my own post for others as a future reference.
The hardest part was removing the faceplate, particularly the top left corner was really tough to get out without flexing the thin parts of the faceplate and risking breaking it. After getting it out I popped it back in and then removed it again, and now that it's been out once it's much easier to remove. Regarding the battery disconnection - I did it with the battery connected and wasn't shocked, so I guess it's just a liability precaution for the instructions to recommend that. Regarding the display on the unit - I thought since the button on the LX headunit says cd/tape, that it would read tape when the aux was connected, but it reads CD-C for a changer. I wonder if you hook up a honda tape deck, even though it would be on the same port, if the deck communicates that it's a tape deck and displays tape, while the hon98-aux communicates that it's a changer? It would be cool if you could customize the text to say AUX or MP3. I fed the cable through the not an ashtray after removing the tray and the rail that it slides into. I found that using a wire hanger, and going from bottom to top was easiest, then just taped the cable to the wire and pulled it back down. Easier than I thought it would be. Installing the rail with the cable in place was a little tight, but it doesn't interfere with the tray sliding at all. It works flawlessly, sounds great, is a lot better than an fm modulator or buying a new headunit with an aux jack, and I'm thrilled with it! |
