Default Speed Warning Beep

I live in the Middle East with a Gulf Spec '08 Pilot. All cars here are required to have a warning beep when the vehicle's speed exceeds 120km/h (this is the highway speed limit here). The problem with mine is that it goes off at 112km/h and is rather annoying when all I am doing is trying to stay with the traffic flow.

Honda will disconnect it on the sly for about $250, but I can't see it being that hard a job to do, given the right info. Anyone have any experience with this issue? Anywhere to get a wiring diagram?

Thanks!

Yes it is, talked to a friend of mine who had his speed warning beep silenced and he confirmed the seat belt beep also no longer works. Further thoughts?

Crap! Paid the 6 bucks and got squat for an answer.

If you have a beep when not using your seat-belt, it seems as important to have a beep when exceeding the speed limit.

It's all about your safety and those around you. Just look at all the concern about seat-belt wearing.

http://hondapilot.org/forums/showthr...light=seatbelt

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your dilemma. But maybe in the states we can pass legislation to ensure that anyone who exceeds the speed limit will be subjected to the same beeping as when you do not wear your seat-belt.

The horror! The horror! It seems the Middle East has taken a better path to ensure the safety of their citizens. We in America should be ashamed!

We in the USA should all immediately push for legislation that would enact a kill switch to be initiated whenever a seat-belt is not used or when we exceed the speed limit.

I think most members here would agree.

Please keep us informed if you managed to resolve your problem.

I'm going to speak for myself here.

1. Short of moving my car around my driveway, I've never been unbelted in the front seat of a car since, well, maybe the late '70s. I regularly wear my seatbelt in the back seats of cars as well. Therefore:
a. I reflexively put on my seatbelt
b. I don't need a reminder chime to tell me to do this
c. I don't need a light on the dashboard to tell me to do this either.

2. No, an interlock for speeding is asinine. How are you planning on enforcing this, when a) speed limits vary from state to state b) speed limits vary from road to road? Are you going to make the speed limit cutoff the highest common denominator in the US? So, ok, then it's 80mph. Oh wait, that's already higher than Texas (75 mph) or CT (65 mph) or the street in front of my house (40mph), so it'll accomplish... nothing because there will still be speeding somewhere. Before you say "well we can make the highways smart and have transmitters on the road that will send a slow down signal to the ECU." Speeding is arguably as much, if not more, of a problem not on highways, but on smaller roads where there is more pedestrian traffic and greater opportunities for collision from vehicles traveling at different speeds and different directions. Are you going to put these magic beacons EVERYWHERE? Who's going to pay for it?

Look, technology is great, but technology is not a replacement for common sense, or a crutch for idiocy. It is a bad system to use technology to cover up the idiocy of others.

They had the nerve to speed limit one of my bikes to 186 m.p.h.

My portable Tom Tom flashes red when exceeding recommended road speed limits.

I just say turn up the stereo. ;-)

As a nurse I personally like seat belt laws as they keep me from taking the walk to the waiting room and telling people there family member did not survive the head first dive through the windshield.
I don't know how I feel about a beeping noise telling me I am going too fast. I don't know about anyone else's pilot but mine is goverened @ 113 MPH
Governments & Lawyers...something we need less of
Although the turn the stereo up solution did appeal to me greatly

Maybe we need a rain sensor so that when it rains the Pilot won't go into Drive ??? Or a wind sensor that senses cross winds that might turn the Pilot over on it's side ??
Or maybe a weight sensor that will not let you turn into a Fast Food place if there is too much weight on the front seat.

How about some things being left up to common sense. Not everyone is meant to live. If you are dumb enough to do some of these things then maybe we don't need ya here anyway. I just know I have had enough of the Fed trying to intrude into my life.

Aww man here I go *****ing about one thing when I am on a car forum
Sorry guys

Popesterb's original post is about the difference in speed that his/her Pilot alarms than the rest of the cars in the UAE. It alarms at ~70 mph instead of ~75 mph (the national speed limit on highways). I wonder if this would be a minor software adjustment the dealer could do? The rental cars I have driven in the UAE and Oman have an almost pleasant sounding "chime" for the speed alarm. Nothing like the seat belt alarm on my US Pilot. From my experiences driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi you don't want to be disrupting the flow by driving 5mph under.
