OK Guys, I'm creating this thread because Ive been on here the last few days looking for any threads on how to STILL use the OEM Flip Down Monitor with an aftermarket stereo and I have not found one yet. I have asked crutchfield advisors about this and all they can tell you in that you lose the factory dvd player, which is a given, however they dont advise you on how to splice( if it's possible) to the OEM monitor so you can still get the dvd video signal from an aftermarket stereo. I'm doin my research from now because in the next few months I want to replace my OEM unit with an aftermarket DVD Navigation double din( Most likely a Kenwood DNX-8120 or DNX -5120
) and I would like to be able to play dvd's in an aftermarket and still see them thru the OEM monitor once this is done. I dont want to replace the OEM overhead with some aftermarket brand and make it look cheesy if thats what its gonna take. Let me know guys if you know anything about this or if you agree or disagree with me on this post. Thanks, Ray

If memory hasn't failed me, the OEM unit is made by Panasonic.

Keeping the OEM can be done but it will most likely be a trial-and-error process. The key wires to splice are power, ground, accessory (turn on) and the video signal leads. To get the appropriate wire diagrams, just buy a short-term subscription to Honda's online tech site through Helminc.com. You'll be able to access any factory manual, diagram, TSB, etc for your Pilot and it will be in the PDF format.
IMO there are plenty of aftermarket overhead monitors that give you an OEM look and it will be a much easier task to install vs what you're considering. Directed Video, Vizualogic and Alpine are examples. I'm picky about how aftermarket accessories look as well. My Directed Video unit install is very clean and looks OEM.

Hi,
I am replacing my Factory installed Honda Pilot 2006 EX-L DVD Entertainment system and Audio with Pioneer Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD. Is it possible to RETAIN the factory installed, "LCD Overhead Flip-Down Monitor" already provided with the Factory installed Honda Pilot 2006 EX-L DVD Entertainment system and use it to connect it to the Pioneer Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD system? Thanks in Advance. The wires look too complicated and the color diagram looks a bit scarry. (attached pdf) Thanks Sriram Sridhar |

Just now I found out that I need to isolate A17 and A12 connectors from A 22 P cable that goes to Factory installed DVD player and connect it to the after market DVD entertainment system.
Pictures attached. Will try it and let you know.. |

I am still trying to figure out the wires on the OEM Flip Down Monitor to be connected to the aftermarket stereo. Has anyone in this forum tried it out? Please let me know.
Thanks Sriram |

I think you are the first to go this route.
An electrician might test the wires to the screen perhaps at the HU to see which one provides which signal (video/AudoR/Audio L and the various controls. It might get power from a dedicated wire. They may use an industry standard wiring color code which will make it easy. Please post the Helmic pdfs if you can others will benefit from your experience.

What puzzles me is that I tried directly connecting the OEM DVD monitor to the 12 volt power supply but the thing won't power on.
I checked +B (No: 1) to measure 12 volts. I made sure ILL+(No: 12) is fed 12 volts. I made sure (RRBUS +) and (RRBUS-) is fed 12 volts. I tried feeding the Video signal output (2.5 v) from the aftermarket DVD receiver to the following lines to see if this monitor displays the video output. RR NTSC -- RR NTSC GROUND SCTY RR DISP --- GND SCTY DVD --- GND I did not display any video output. I am eager to know how the "REAR" power switch turns ON the OEM DVD monitor in the original PANASONIC factory Audio unit. I tried all these steps mentioned above but could not turn on the OEM DVD monitor. In this above said process, I blew out a couple of fuses (15A and 20 A) in the Passenger side DASH Fuse Box. Had to use the MINI Fuse that I bought from pepboys. |

B+ is constant power, ILL+ is the illumination wire - you need to tap the ACC input of the monitor to turn it on and then ground.
Those are the right video wires either. The with the SCTY header have to do more with the control BUS.

Based on your diagram, I would feed 12v+ to the RR SYSTEM ACC and verify the ground connection. This should turn the unit on. For video I would tap into RR NTSC for the positve video signal and RR NTSC Ground for negative. You can also connection the shield to the shield of the video cable you're using but isn't absolutely necessary.

I had already tried all permutation and combination but it did not turn on the LCD display screen.
I am going to try once more by connecting the +12 V to RR SYSTEM ACC, RR NTSC for the positve video signal RR NTSC Ground for negative Ground(BLK) is already connected in the LCD screen. Will try this and let you know. |
