Default television tuner

Does anyone have a TV tuner in their pilot? I wanted to have the option of tuning in a game on the road or something but don't know where to start.

I thought about buying an inverter and using something that I would use for my home TV but that would be silly...right?

Thoughts?

Try searching on inputs to NAV. I remember reading about one of the RGB converters that plugs into the NAV that featured a TV Tuner.

Let us know what you find!

I've seen a lot of posts in my time, including many about video, but never one about television.

Here are some bookmarks I had. I haven't looked for awhile, but I seem to remember something integrated and cheaper.

Link 1 - Input

Link 2 - Tuner

I installed an after market dvd player with built in tuner but the tuner part is hardly usable. You have to live within a 20-25 mile radius of the city where the transmitters are. Beyond 30 miles, I can only receive the strongest UHF station and it is marginal at best.

I am thinking of getting one of those boomerang antenna that you see mounted on limos but I am afraid to plunk the cash only to find out that it does not work.

I have a little 5" color TV that I plug into a inverter. When I take the wife out shopping, I'll sit in the parking lot and plug it in. It's the cheapest way to get TV.

I got a tv tuner that i got off onlinecarstereo.com it works out fine. i used it in 2 diffrent cars 01 accord coupe now an 06 pilot. never really ran the antenna wires there all hiding in the cargo storage bin in the 06 pilot. the performance seems to be better not run than ran like when it was in the accord. it picks up fox mostly and some of vhf stations but almost never uhf stations. it really depends on locations and the city where you are

I've wondered about this as well. I figure there is satellite radio, you can get satellite phones that work in the middle of the rain forest. You have satellite TV at home and the dishes/converter boxes are way smaller then they used to be. The dish on your house has to be pointed in a certain direction but the receiver on your satellite radio obviously does not. Satellite TV in the car can't be far off.

It is already here but very expensive yet. One website I pulled up showed it would cost about $2300 & didn't say if that was including installation or not.

The KVH unit is very good but too pricey at this point. The price on the KVH website does not include installation. RaySat also offers a similar unit aimed at DishNetwork users. Installation costs will vary depending on the vehicle and some installs will require drilling an access hole in the roof for the main cable. Sirius Backseat TV is currently available in select Chrysler/Dodge vehicles and an aftermarket unit will be available sometime later this year at a MSRP of $299.99. The downside is that it only broadcasts three children's channels (Nickelodeon, Disney & Cartoon Network).

Or you could try a slingbox with a cellular phone or laptop/tablet PC that gets high speed internet. I caught the first inning of the Yankees-Indians game tonight on my way home from work - honestly, I only glanced at the screen of my blackjack phone when I was stopped in traffic! I was able to listen to the entire inning though.

I have taken a tablet PC in my car for trips before so the passenger could watch my DirecTiVo at home through the slingbox. I have cingular service, and when you are in a 3G area, the picture is pretty good. When you are on the Edge network, the picture is pretty much unwatchable with constant dropouts. As cellular providers increase the coverage of their high speed networks, this type of setup may become more practical.

Depending on what you want to listen too, you can get all MLB, all NHL, and a lot of college football on XM radio.
