Question Cigarette Lighter

Hello all. I did a search but couldn't find this out so I'll ask here.

I know a lot of you want the accessory sockets to be hot all of the time. Some even modified wiring and relays to allow this.

I noticed however that the instructions for installing the accessory cigarette lighter tells you to plug the new harness into a blue taped wire just behind the accessory socket. I'm wondering if doing this activates the new cigarette lighter so that it's available all of the time even with the key off?

Does anyone actually have the lighter installed and if so two questions:

Does it work with the key off?

Also will 12 volt accessory plugs work in the lighter socket?

Thanks for the help.

Probably not. The accessory relay is what controls the power going to the sockets. A relay is just a mechanical switch controlled by an electrical signal. This is why people are able to achieve power-on-all-the-time if the relay is byapssed and a jumper is installed.

If you have a digital multimeter, you can test for 12v+ constant after you make the new connections.

I would like to install a cigarette type power outlet in the glove box of my 2008 Pilot.

Where can I find this adapter you are talking about?

Can I unplug the harness connected to the cigarette lighter in this photo, and plug in some sort of Y adapter? Then just plug one end back in, and run the other side to my glove box?
