Default Conventional & Synthetic oils explained

I know there's been some discussion on which oils are better. I found this article to be quite helpful in figuring out the various types of synthetics. Enjoy:

Finally the light it been shed on the topic of synthetic engine oils, thank you very much Itchy this is indeed a great find. This article clearly states that Castrol Syntec is a synthetic wannabe... and then really Mobil 1 synthetic and Amsoil are the next group IV (but i thought Amsoil says that they are the engine oil God...) and the king of the synthetic oils is Red Line !
Thank you.

Red Line is the real deal, but at a price of about $10/ quart. I suppose the $$ balance themselves out due to the long drain intervals that Red Line can sustain. However I'd be weary because the Honda filter is designed for 7000 miles. I'm not sure if there are heavy duty filters out there that can go beyond 7k. In any case I'll probably switch to synthetic after about 10k miles to ensure my engine is fully broken in.

On another note, I received that article from a BMW forum (roadfly.org) member which is why the author mentions Castrol's european synthetic oil. With BMW's from 1999+, the manufacturer recommends changing the oil every 15k miles.

I think the Honda recommendation for filter changes is still the old "every other oil change", which would be a 15,000 mile life.

I won't get into the whole "good enough" discussion.

Maybe I need to start selling a new oil?

It will be $25 a quart, and is guaranteed to last the life of your car providing you follow all the recommendations (in real small print).

I'll probably make a million dollars before I have to buy some sucker a new engine.
