Question Mobil 1,Red Line,Amsoil,etc...?

Hi everyone,
So if someone wanna to use a fully synthetic oil that reduced the wear on the engine to the max, which engine oil manufacturer has the product,i'm not talking extended intervals at all,say about 5000~6000 Km maximum ?,the reason i'm still asking this question is because i seem to come across info that says that Castrol for example is not fully synthetic, that Mobil 1 Trysyn (or something like that...) also it's not 100% synthetic,Amsoil has always been the mystery oil (ourageous long drain intervals, thing i don't buy... ) that leaving Red Line about the only engine oil manufacturer that seems to be the realMcCoy ...in the wear/tear tests which one did the best guys .
Again thank you.

Mobil 1 and Catrol both have full syntetic.

The thing to look for is the wording on the package. They use the term "synthetic blend" for a mix. And "Full Synthetic" for a pure synthetic oil.

Check out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

They offer all kinds of oil Analysis. From the brief lookiing I have done. It's pretty mcuh the same.

Default Synthetic Oil Thought

I have to run synthetic in my TOUAREG (VW is pretty picky about the oil they recommend).

I did some research and found Valvoline's Full Synthetic does really well for engine protection. That's what I'm now running in my TOAUREG. Just my two cents.

I use Mobil 1 0W20 during winter time and Mobil 1 5W30 during the summer time because I can buy/order the oil at a reasonable price at work.

I've been running Mobil1 for years and absolutely love it. I stock up when it's on sale and have never had a problem finding it when I need it. I use 0W30 in the winter and 5W30 in the summer. Both of our Honda's saw a slight gas mileage improvement when we went from the OEM oil to synthetic. Used oil analysis shows very little wear and the additive package is in great shape after 5000-6000 miles. Once I get both cars to 20K, I'll be going with extended oil change intervals, saving money and time.

Exclamation Other 0W grade oils...

Hi everybody,Sunday i picked up 6 L of Mobil 1 0W20 synth engine oil from our local Parts Source (South common loc.) because they had a "deal" if you buy 5 bottles you get the 5 th on free so for $41 i got 6 bottles of M1,anyways i also noticed Mobil 1 0W30 and 0W40 in synthetic.I know i have mentioned this before but i don't feel comfortable using such a light oil (5w20) in the summer so what do you guys think of getting the insurance from a heavier engine oil like the 0W40 ? ,or at least a 0W30 .I'm certain that Honda's recommendation of 5W20 gives the car the fuel "economy"...(that most of us don't see anyways...) and low emissions as per California 2010 requirements and sacrificing (my personal opinion...) long term reliability as Honda's have been known for so many years.

The internal engine temperatures are much more stable today than they were in the past. This is one reason that it is much less important (or not important at all) to increase the viscosity durring the summer.
I have yet to hear of anyone having long term engine reliability problems, however I don't think many '02 and '03 Honda are over 100,000 miles yet.

Castrol Syntec swithched from pure synthetic to a class III base stock (not synthetic, but very good stuff). Mobil went after them in court about the 'synthetic' label and lost. Then Mobil came out with there marketing answer, Tri-Synthetic. So I wonder if Mobil 1 is a cheaper formula, now?

There are two small companies that are not into the big market stuff and make a good pure synthetic product, that does cost a bit more. Amsoil and Red Line are just not big enough to compete with the giants. They make a product, add up the cost, plug in a profit margine and then sell it. It appears that the big companies have to start with the price, first, and back into a product. If the competition gets tougher the products gets cheaper, even though the price stays the same.

So I buy my oil from the two little guys. If you are convinced that the big guys make a 'better' product, then at least their marketing is better.

TriSyn isn't marketed any more, in large part (IMO) because of them cheapening the product as a result of the Castrol controversy. Mobil 1 is now a full syn (group IV) marketed as "supersyn". Has been for the last 2-3+ years.

Lightbulb I've decided...

Hi everyone,so after tons of reading on engine oils, synthetic only i have decided that starting with the next oil change i will use Red Line over Mobil 1.I trust that Mobil 1 is the best second choice but Mobil 1 still starts life as a mineral oil (so does Amsoil...) and Red Line is pure synthetic. The extra cost was taken into consideration very much so but since we plan to keep our Pilot till it meets it's maker we figured it's worth it,once i'm out of Mobil 1 stash for the BMW it too will receive the same treatment.

Thumbs up

kettlinton,hi
My BMW is a 1995 318i (3 series) black leather on black (the works) .I do not have any digital shots of the car,in fact the car is not even home;it's at a body shop getting a full paint job due to a severe hale storm we had here back in july, can't wait. The car it's already painted they just have to put it back together (bumpers,moldings,mirrors,etc...).I can say this much, this BMW is super reliable;i got 185.000 kilometers on it and it's been on Mobil 1 since new (changed oil at about 5~6000 Kms) same Mobil 1 stuff in the tranny and rear diff too.The reason i'll switch over to Red Line is because i think their stuff is made without any compromise (not to mention that they have a 5W20 oil to !) ,they don't worry about companies like Castrol posing their Syntec as synthetic oil... ,i understand that synthetic lubricants cost more but so do cars,we opted for a Honda Pilot and paid the higher price over much cheaper brands from much less reliable and reputable companies,it just makes sense to go premium all the way .
Thank you.
