All over the place.

Most dealers make up there own service list, so it is hard to get an apples-to-apples comparison.

Ask the dealer what they are going to do and how much each item costs, then compare that list to what is in the owners manual.

Also make sure you are getting the right 30,000 mile service, normal schedule or severe schedule.

Most will try to get you to follow the severe schedule even if you can follow the normal because it's more money in their pocket. Also get quotes from dealers in your town for EXACTLY what the manual states, then call around to see who can beat the best price.

Since you are in Alaska, most likely the stealer is following the severe maintenance schedule. Can you break it down for us what the stealer is going to do for $600.00?

Default it was a little above $500

They changed all the fluids, rotated the tires, inspected whatever says on the checklist, degreased and cleaned the engine bay, changed the air filter. That’s pretty much it, I checked the owners manual for the required 30,000 maintenance. The only thing they forgot was to reset the maintenance required light.

Forgive me, I don't mean to be snide, but why would you pay that much money for that?

Default coz

if i did it myself, and forgot something or did something wrong with the required maintenance, the warranty won't cover my mistakes. on the other hand, if it was done by honda and something goes wrong (knock on wood) i've got the receipt to back it up what went wrong and why honda techs did'nt do what they're supposed to do. and plus this is alaska...everything here is pretty pricey...i compared the same service to where i'm from and it's a $125 difference.

Hmmm, I wonder if the biggest slice of the $500+ cost was for the degreasing/cleaning of the engine bay. The funny thing is, I can't remember ever seeing that appear as a line item on past service tickets (for my '98 Civic, etc.).

My next big service will be the 30,000, so this thread is of more than passing interest to me!

Pet peeve--both Honda dealerships I've used for service forget to reset the maintenance required light 90 percent of the time.

When I had an EGR problem last month I also had the dealer done a 30K service they charge me $397 and changes. Knowing mine was only 26K and the last service I did was 7,500 miles. So the dealer suggest service on 30K miles.

I think that depend on what state you are in, too.

Be sure to ask specifically for the VTM fluid change. Some dealers have a standard 30k checklist which they use for all their Hondas and it may not have been updated for the Pilot.

I had to bug them to get the VTM fluid change added to the service. They were like "...what's that for? Oh that's right...the differential fluid..."
