Default Should I change my Pilot's oil @ only 2500 miles?

I bought my pilot back in March, but have only put 2500k miles on her. I'm coming up on 6 months and I'm supposed to be due for an oil change 6mo/6k miles. Any recommendations?

Also, I have always used Mobil 1 synth on other cars and am happy with it. Anyone have any reason why I shouldn't use it in my Pilot?

TIA

Thanks for the link. I actually did a search and saw this before I posted. It does not speak to the age of the oil however. It only recommends waiting to between 7500 and 10k miles. It's my understanding that oil does have a limited life as well. Can someone enlighten me?

Oil doesnot have a shelf life were it expires after 6 months but it does have a service life. What this means is the oils ability to hold contaminates in suspension is used up. That is why the oil turns black, the dark color is do to contaminates held in suspension in the oil. Your oil filter also removes contaminates but it will only remove particulars above a certain size. The motor oil holds the smaller size contaminates in suspension that are too small for the filter to remove. Driving so few miles means that the your oil will use up it's ability to hold contaminates and clean the metal parts before it reaches a set mileage recommendation. That is why all vehicle manufactures also give a set time that the oil should be changed if you are a low mileage driver.

Default Why not read the Owners Manual

I think the change interval has both miles and months!

If I recall for Regular Service Schedule, the oil change is due 12 months or 7,500 miles.

For Severe Service, every 6 months or 3,750 miles.

The first oil interval is important, since there are some additives to help break in the engine, and this oil change you should not do too soon.

Look in this thread for some good suggestions.

Good Luck.

With all your short trips I would change my the oil and oil filter every six months. Page 276 of the owners manual says severe conditions are, You drive less than 5 miles, or in freezing weather less than 10 miles, extensive idling or long periods of stop and go driving, and driving in extreme heat over 90 degrees. On the Mobil 1, I have never used it, many other Pilot owners use Mobil 1 and have had no problems. If you have used Mobil 1 in the past and had no problems, an the better flow characteristics at start up of Mobil 1 during cold weather would be better for the Pilots engine during your cold weather months. I use Dino oil based (non-synthetic) and change oil ever 4500 miles, oil changes are cheap engine repairs are not. I live in West Texas which is hot (over 90), today it 92 degrees, dry and dusty.
